Love love love POLLO TROPICAL! the chicken is delicious, the plantains are the best thing of the menu, their patacones are to die for and the yuca is the definition of perfection. Not the fanciest place on earth but you get your money worth and enjoy the food tremendously.

I was impress with its cleanliness. The service was courteous and quick. The food was also good. I ordered chicken and it was juicy and the marinade was flavorful.

As we try to help out as many travelers as we can . . . I’m going to review the following places/things we did in Panama SEPARATELY – so check out each item for our reviews:
- Wyndham Garden Centro Ambassador Hotel
- Hop On/Hop Off Tour
- Mira Flores – The Panama Canal
- Hard Rock Hotel/Café
- Pollo Tropicale
- GranClemente Ice Cream Parlour
- Mercado del Marisco – Fish Market
- El Panama Hotel
- Manolo’s Restaurant
- Santa Clara Beach - This was the CLOSEST & supposedly the nicest beach
ADDITIONALLY? Please see the bottom of this review for GOOD information regarding your visit to Panama City, Panama – per our experience.
& DO NOT MISS our info on transportation to/from Tocumen Airport . . .
OK . . . onto THIS review:

The location we visited was in the Multi-Plaza

We expected the type of GREAT food as is delivered in the United States . . . I'm sorry, we were very disappointed.

Not only was the chicken not available . . . but the price for the awful food we did receive was way off.

We never finished what we had purchased & left.

- Do NOT believe the first person you ask for information/directions. We consistently received DIFFERENT responses.
- Panama City IS traffic congested & for the most part DIRTY & sometimes even waste type SMELLY. As far as the traffic is concerned . . . we were pleased to see that the cars DO seem to stop for you when crossing streets. Just be reasonable in your crossings.
- Souvenirs? EXPENSIVE, EXPENSIVE, EXPENSIVE. I was able to find reasonable prices when we visited the hill, on the Causeway part of the Hop On/Hop Off tour AND I was even able to get the pricing lower.
- Mini-Markets seemed to be located on every street . . . you can get anything from toiletries to food items & light medications. “REY” was a GREAT, large supermarket to shop in, they even have any type of alcohol (Beer, Wine, Hard Liquors) AND some ready-made foods (Heat & Serve). It is a block or so away on the MAIN Road & I believe was open 24hrs. As we found restaurants to be pricey as well, we opted for prepping food in our hotel suite (we had a small kitchen area w/frig & microwave)
- Metro – SUBWAY . . . Purchase card @ Subway Station from the machine - $2. If you put in anything MORE than the $2, this WILL be applied to the card you purchase. ONE card is sufficient for your entire travelling party, just keep reusing it f/each person. We did NOT see a change machine. .35/per person/per ride
- Metro – BUS . . . If you plan to travel by bus from the Albrook Terminal, you MUST purchase a “Rapi-Pass” (again ONE is sufficient) for $2 – this is also the minimum charge. .25/per person/per ride
It is NOT close to the city & TAXIs CAN be VERY costly. We were quoted $50 f/3 persons, however, while walking to catch the bus, a passing taxi yelled out $20 & we took it.
THE BUS into Panama City: No Rapi-Pass needed. $1.25/per person/each-way
From the Airport . . . follow the covered walkway which exits to the right of the airport OUT to the main street & flag down the bus that will take you to Albrook Terminal. They come pretty regular.
Once at Albrook Terminal, you can either elect a taxi to your destination, OR, if your adventurous? Go to the other side of the Terminal, up the escalator/stairs & check out the SUBWAY (See above).
From Albrook Terminal . . . Outside the Terminal, between the Terminal & Albrook Mall . . . look for the sign that says “Tocumen Corredor Sur” . . . they come rather quickly. It is about a 20-30 minute ride to the airport. You will depart the bus out on the main street & have to walk to the terminal through that covered walkway, not a very long walk.

Pollo Tropical is definitely “the place to go” if you want healthy food and you want it served quickly! Did I mention that it is also very affordable? Good food, served quickly, and affordable. What more could a person ask for on a Friday the 13th?

Three of us order a whole chicken with two sides for just under $13.00. We had yellow rice and yucca strips for our sides. You also get unlimited access to their sauce bar. BBQ sauce, Guava BBA sauce, Cilantro Mayo, fresh salsa, Curry Mustard, hot sauce, and more.

The counter help was very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. The price was very reasonable. Will have to eat here again very soon…

Buen Provecho,
Panama Vagabond
