My first contact with Dimiter was during the planning stage.
Since we had not been to Bulgaria before and had no idea what to expect on the mountains, our biggest concern was the weather as none of us had much experience with snow.
We received detailed answers to all our questions (including what to wear :-)), discussed several options, and finally decided to let Dimiter decide on the exact route depending on the actual weather conditions.
We set out for a snowshoeing adventure (2 adults and 3 kids), got stuck with our rented car on the way to Samkovo (and rescued under Dimiter's instructions and using his trusty shovel), selected an alternative location and after learning how to sue snowshoes and poles , spent a glorious few hours in virgin snow in and out of the woods around Ortsevo village.
We enjoyed sleet, snow & sunshine, learned the proper way to build a snowman, identify hare, dog & horse tracks, and more.
Dimiter's English is excellent and his knowledge of the mountains, flora, fauna and Bulgaria in general, is extensive.
He is patient and works well both with adults and with young children (ages 6 and up).
Highly recommended for beginners and youngsters, and I am sure he can be fully trusted for more serious and longer adventures too.

* Listen carefully to his tips about other places to visit in Bulgaria, especially in the Rodophes mountains - each of his suggestions turned out to be a real gem, and his weather predictions for the locations were also spot on.

I had four fantastic off piste and ski touring days with Lyuben.
We did one adventurer off piste day in Bansko, one ski touring in Pirin and two days ski touring in Rila mountains.
Lyuben is a real professional ski teacher and mountain guide. He took care for every small detail including hotel recommendation, dynamically change plans according to my needs and ski level, and even surprising suggestion like a thermal pool in the end of our two days ski touring in the Rila mountains.
I enjoyed spending the time with Lyuben and highly recommend others for ski touring, off piste or normal alpine skiing.
I'm really consider to spend some more time with him for more ski touring days!

Have fun!
Didi.

Two of us, reasonably active gents spent 3 very enjoyable days with Dimiter in the Bansko region Feb 26-28, 2018. Neither of us wanted to ski but we wanted exercise and this was a perfect solution and a great workout. We had 60 cm of fresh snow and all types of weather conditions over the 3 days. Dimiter is good company and well organised and the trips were well thought out and planned. He was able to anticipate needs and adjust the length of the walk at any stage to our requirements. There was always an exit strategy that got us back to the start quickly if weather was too bad or we had enough. I would not hesitate to recommend this and I'm planning a revisit to the region over a Summer to experience the high mountain walks. Well done Dimiter and thanks very much

Went with my girlfriend for a two day snowshoeing trip in Rila. Organisation went very smooth. Dimiter is very responsive and gave a lot of information upfront so we were able to prepare sufficiently. Pick-up at apartment, two day hike itself and the accommodation for 1 night was arranged perfectly. Finally, Dimiter turned out to be an excellent guide with a very good knowledge about the area where we went snowshoeing. Also, given that we were only three and we were all in decent shape, he tuned the tour exactly to our needs (mix of more adventurous parts and more relax parts with great views). His English is top notch (and apparently his Spanish is even better). All in all a great experience, highly recommended!

We did the tour to the Vitosja mountain. Dimiter picked us up at the hotel which must have been quite a hassle for him, as we were in the center of the city center. He drove us for about an hour untill we ended outside of Sofia and at the starting point of our tour. We put on the snowshoes and went hiking. The views of the fresh powder, the golden sunlight and the snow covered landscape were simply stunning. Dimiter told us a lot about the landscape, about Bulgary, Sofia, the culture, food, his work and more. He was very friendly, informative and easy to talk to. He tried his best at taking pictures of us using my own way-to-complicated DSLR and snapped a couple of lovely shots!
I can't describe how it felt walking through a snowcovered forest, but it was amazing. It was so beautiful!! And the silence, amazing. We Dutch are used to hearing the sound of civilization everywhere so being up there, in the middle of a frozen forest and hearing nothing was magical. The 2,5 hours of climbing went by very fast and the descent was lovely and very much appreciated (/needed). On the way down we stopped at a restaurant were we had some very nice soup.

We both really enjoyed the experience. The route was not too hard for us, the views were lovely and the company was enjoyable! We really recommend it!
