“Soviet feel”
Reviewed 20 July 2011

If you want to tast the old Soviet feel, do visit Belarus and pick this hotel, although I must admit that the staff were friendly in general which was not always the case in the Soviet Union era. As mentioned by others, the hotel is really outdated. The shower did work every day to my suprise. I expected it to fall apart every time I used it. .I opened the door to a closet which it appeared not to be. All kinds of tubes were in this 'closet'and also all kinds of rubbish left behind by previous guests. If you like a good breakfast, then this hotel is the place to stay. A lot of cold ánd hot things to choose from. No complaints. The location is not so bad either. Overall: a typical Soviet style hotel with no maintenance for years. The price was in no comparison with the quality offered. But still, it was a very interesting trip to this country where the KGB is still the KGB.

Yubileinaya is the correct name, a typical soviet era place, dark, seedy entrance lounge leading to night club and strip joint, rooms old soviet style but passable and quiet at night.Nearby some eateries although avoid Tractir, rips off foreigners. 10 mins to old town, there is even an Irish public 15 mins away, haggle like mad with taxi drivers, hotel helpful but conives to hype up rates. Passable if like us this is what is offered with a package and after all there are those ladies offering to ensure you have a 'good time'. Breakfast , well second day gave up and had water, tourist coaches swarmed through with plates piled high.

Room Tip: expect soviet style rooms

Standard hotel, but Belarus style, which means stained furniture and carpets. Beds seem clean. For a single room they have economy class and superior . Tried them both and I fail to see the difference. Economy is 66 US, superior 91 US. I haven t seen any other hotels in Minsk but I consider this one to be overpriced. Parking and WIFI available but cost extra

Foreigners often get a rough deal with accomodation in Minsk, but this hotel is a safe, reliable, clean and friendly place to base yourself if you're looking to discover the city. It's location is just outside the city centre, but it's only a ten minute walk to the main throughfare of the city and major road that runs down to it is safe enough and well lit.

The staff mostly speak good English, which is a relief in a place like Belarus where language skills are not as strong as the rest of Europe. The room was good - cleaned daily, neat and tidy and well heated. There are also great views from the upper floors (we were on floor 8 and took some great pictures of the Minsk skyline from here).

Breakfast is a combination of Belarussian classics (hot sausage, eggs, rice, cauliflower) and continental (meat, cheese, bread, fruit, yoghurt, coffee juice etc.). The restaurant is pretty uneventful, but it's perfectly satisfactory.

You can also buy wifi access within the for 3 or 24 hours. It's not free but it's very cheap.

Like most hotels in Minsk if you're around late at night you'll probably be offered the services of a lady of the night by someone. But don't be intimidated by this - it happens everywhere and it's perfectly fine to say no thank you and just go to bed.

right in the heart of minsk, this hotel overlooks the river and is in close proximity to most restaurants and bars. there is a lot to do around this hotel in the evening after a hard day at work! hotel has a casino and also good restaurant. language is a barrier here because not many people in belarus speak english and that includes the hotel staff. so the only ones that can probably help you out with an answer to your question is the reception staff.
