Absolutely amazing, stunning food and wine, good service and really low prices. Perfect for a day with some friends.

Lunchtime thinking of meat in the Mercado del Puerto, we passed by and saw Es Mercat brimming with people eating and obviously enjoying themselves. We asked a guy having a smoke outside and he recommended it, but for the fish. We asked if they were open in the evening, to go back, but they closed at 5pm, so we decided to stay, and managed to get the last table free. They had lamb confit as the meat special of the day, so we decided to share a sargo (local bream) for first, and then share the lamb for second - WOW. Both dishes were really very very good, and the bread (focaccia and standard) was wonderful - it is baked in small batches by a local German couple who bake for friends. We will go back!

We were steered in the direction of Es Mercat on the advise of the owner of the guest house where we stayed. Less than a mile walk in the Old Town, this hidden gem sits right on the corner down by the piers. Hostess/ waitress Lilly and her fiancé were the friendliest, warmest couple, they had us feeling like family by the end of the meal. The fresh fish was spectacular, the potatoes excellent, the wine (which we allowed Lilly to pick) superb, and the ambiance warm and unique. We even had her postre del dia, which just topped everything! My only regret is that we didn’t have a chance to go back. At least, this trip.

Pulpo (squid) was to die for, as was the sauce and the amazing potato twice cooked. Only a block from the central market- worth the short walk!!!! Trust me

This old family restaurant offer a great selection of seafood and meat. For a couple, we had 2 starters and shared a delicious black sea bass (Merluza - don't miss it!). All wered superb, flavorful and perfectly cooked. Service was nice and warm. The young chef (2nd generation) is very talented, don't hesitate to ask him suggestion.
It was one the the best meal we had in Uruguay. Really a good time, just go !
