The hostel itself was barely livable. The sheets were not long enough to cover my bed so I'd wake up on the nasty mattress with no barrier between me and it. I shower in the evening and barely had hot water for longer than a few seconds--otherwise it was lukewarm. My friend had no problems in the morning with hot water. There was a skylight without a curtain so the sun would blaze in which is fine if you don't want to sleep in. Also, our walls did not go to the ceiling so we could hear the occupants in the room next to us and the common bathroom on the other side.

Perhaps we had a bum room (11) because on the last day when I was in a dorm shower, the water was wonderfully hot and the bedsheets looked like they stayed in place.

Also, the security was troublesome. They gave strangers our room number one afternoon and we were quite surprised when these outsiders not from the hostel knocked on our door.

Like most people, we showed up at the hostel on the booking address and was sent across Kennedy Park. But there were redeeming qualities. There are two computers for the internet and they are relatively fast. The third floor common area was comfortable and had a great view. There was a Starbucks next door for those who can't live without. Pizza Alley was a few steps away and the area was surrounded by great restaurants. There was always something going on in the Park and the beach was a ten minute walk away. The location almost made up for the sleeping conditions. Also, the included breakfast, though located across the park, was quite substantial.

Compared with the other hostels we stayed at in Peru (in Puno and in Cusco) this was tops. We tried a suite, not the dorms, and the bed was super comfy. The room in general was much bigger than I had hoped for. The bathroom was very clean and the shower was hot with good pressure.
We made good use of the free computer in the common area to plan more parts of our trip. The staff were nice and they all knew english.
Only problem with this location was the noise from the chinese food restaurant beside us which continued into the early evening.

I stopped by this hostel on my last day in Lima. After spending more than 9 hours on an overnight bus, I just needed a place to crash before catching a late night flight. I didn't really need a room, so for 15 soles (like 5 bucks) they offered me a safe place to store my backpack and full access to their common areas (which included bathroom, shower, kitchen, Internet, stocked bookshelf, living room, TV and movies). It was exactly what I needed. The 2 fellas who were running the place were great--super friendly & gave good advice on local shopping and sights.

Having arrived into Lima after many many hours travelling (bus 8 hrs and 2 by plane) we arrived at The Flying Dog only to be greeted by a warm and festively friendly face, Neto. We didn't realise that we were actually booked into another Flying Dog (across the square) but we were given a room and the booking transfered over.
The atmosphere in the place was great especially with Christmas just days away. How anyone could feel lonesome away from home if staying here is beyond me. The staff and the people staying there were great.
Comfy beds, hot water in the showers, missed breakfast but heard good reviews.
The tv room and bar are great places to meet and chat to or check out other travellers!!! A great hostel spirit and I'd certainly return.

this hostal actually has 4 locations all 1-2 blocks apart around parque kennedy. i stayed in one of the smaller ones - a green building (hostal is on the 2nd story) near pizza street on parque kennedy. you can either go to the main one (address: Diez Canseco 117) and see where they have room or check right in to one of the other smaller ones

cute backpackers place - small, 1 computer with free internet, breakfast included (they give you a meal ticket for a nearby restaurant but it doesn't open until 8am - be warned if you're off to an early start), TV room with cable but no TVs in the rooms, clean simple rooms, they give you towels and sheets, reliable hot water, clean spacious bathrooms, shared bathrooms for the dorms ($10/night) and private bathrooms in the double room ($30/night)
