I hired an Uber from the Hilton hotel and it took about 2 hours to get there due to traffic. We left on a Saturday at 11am. The Uber cost 65 PEN. Once at Pachacamac it was apparent that it would be difficult to get a ride for the return trip and the site is suited for you to drive around from ruin to ruin. My advice if you don't go with a package tour is to negotiate one total rate for the drive out, 1 to 2 hours to see the site and then a drive back to Lima.
As for Pachacamac the ruins actually aren't as impressive as the views from Templo Del Sol. You can walk around the temple and see the Pacific Ocean on one side and the Andes Mountains on the other side.
I think the admission was 17 PEN and a tour guide was 25 PEN. From the brochure, the price of a tour guide should have been less but I'm not complaining and I actually gave the tour guide more because she did a great job.
Well worth the trip, just try to manage the time you leave and return to deal with the traffic.

Visited this site as part of our guided tour.
Good to hear about the history of this archeological site.
It can be a bit dusty especially if the wind gets up.
It would be good if Peru could continue to excavate the site as I’m sure there’s more to be found.

This is a wonderful site for visitors of all ages. The guides are knowledgeable and friendly. The ticket office is a bit unorganized if traveling with a larger group, but once that is settled, the tour is worth it.
Bring good walking shoes and water. the sun is strong in Peru, even on cloudy days so be prepared with proper clothing and sunscreen. There is not much shade when touring the site.

Our guide, John Paul, was very knowledgeable and sweet. It was very interesting to learn about the history Peru while walking among the pyramids.

I was looking for a one day tour in Lima and found an excellent option on exploorperu.com that included a visit to the archaeological site of Pachacmac (super interesting and well maintained!!), a downtown tour to the most important buildings and at night a tour of the magic water circuit. All in all a great tour with Pachacamac being my favourite part of it :)
