Every time we go to El Mercado we remember why we return. Although the amount of food served is nothing like the large portions you receive in most restaurants in Cuenca, the food is outstanding in flavor, texture and presentation. The filet mignon rivals the best I’ve ever eaten in the world. It is always extremely tender and delicious as is the mushroom sauce al lado. The prices are definitely “pricey” for Cuenca too, but sometimes it’s just worth it to enjoy the high quality food and atmosphere. The salmon with orange sauce is another favorite.
