Loved this place. Great wine selection, like everywhere in Santiago. Excellent food. Loved the picanha with baked potato.

The Fogon del Gaucho is the ideal restaurant to visit if in need of topping up your proteins! Originally a barbecued beef joint only, it now also serves salmon and chicken. The salad bar is a must, very varied and fresh. They serve a wicked pisco sour and have a great wine list. Try their home made, traditional, 'leche asada' for dessert.
Service is friendly and smiley. Prices not too high.

We have been many times to the Fogon del Gaucho while living in Santiago and now went back while we were on holidays. It is still the same great place with friendly service, great meat (and big portions) and a wonderful salad bar. Most meals come with a side dish to choose from. The place is nicely decorated and there's also space to sit outside. Love to go!

We went to El Fogon twice during our stay in la Reina, once as a group of five, once as a group of three. The restaurant is popular and very pleasant, the staff are helpful. You can choose to eat indoors or outside near the pavement.

For our first meal. We all chose steaks, with a starter salad from the salad bar, accompanied by a nice Chilean red wine. We all wanted Papas Fritas (Fries) but the deep fat fryer was out of order. The baked potatoes were a poor substitute. The fillet steaks were tender but some of us chose other, tastier cuts, Bife de Lomo. These were nicely cooked, al Punto, but a couple were rather tough which was an added disappointment. None of us had dessert.

Before we ate a second time, we checked that Papas Fritas were available. Goods news! Again, the three of us ordered steaks, medium rare, having assumed the tough steaks were a one-off. Unfortunately, two of the three were tough. The Papas Fritas were a bit mediocre too. Salad was nice, Desserts were nice. The wine was nice. The service was good.

I guess we should have learned from our first visit but the place is popular with locals, it was close to where we were staying and our Chilean friends were a little surprised about the poor steaks first time around although none had been to the restaurant for some time. The Alto Sax CD got a bit wearing after an hour or so too!

If you're going to El Fogon, go for the fillet steaks.

What I liked about this place is that the meats are perfectly cooked, fantastic portions, and all dishes come with access to a decent salad bar (included in the price of the dish). Try the baby beef cut and the grilled chicken... the best I've tried in Santiago so far! Prices are reasonable -not cheap. The quality of service is great, the ambiance perfect for groups of people or even couples on romantic evenings.

The menu is simple and all you need to have a really nice meal with friends and family.
