My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights - and we loved it from the first instant we set eyes on it. It has an old world charm that is unique in the middle of its modern surroundings. There are far more prons than cons:
Pros:
- The house is built in 1912 and is beautifully maintained, we loved the ambience. The back of the house has a small garden that is peaceful and quiet - perfect for a morning coffee.
- The first thing that struck us when we entered the room, was an amazingly fresh smell (and it smells like that every time you enter it!). Spotlessly clean room.
- Decent breakfast with made to order eggs and really good cappuccinos
- It is about 20 mins walk from the center of the city - at it is fairly straightforward path
- Small bottles of both with and without gas water are available in the room
- The staff is very helpful (when their airport taxi got delayed and we started panicking, they ordered us a regular taxi within 3 mins - phew!)
- There are restaurants near the hotel you can go to for dinner

Cons:
- The only con was that the heating was not sufficient and we were freezing in the room. But the 2nd night we requested help from the front desk and she searched for an additional heater and gave it to us for the rest of the stay and that really saved us.

All in all, a great stay and completely felt that it was value for money.

Friendly staff.
Well located (short 5 walk to 4 good restaurants, Matildas gave us coupons of discount so we saved 10% each restaurant.... including Ocean Atlantic´s, an amazing seafod restaurant. From room number 2 we could the the Andes!!!
Ah, and there´s a lovely garden in the back...

Room Tip: It´s a romantic old building, restored and well preserved... very elegant.. build in 1912... which survived many earthquakers.

This boutique hotel is housed in a grand old house and beautifully renovated and furnished. Facilities are great with a small dining room and bar plus a cosy library room. The veranda and garden at the rear are perfect to relax in after a hot day of walking and sight seeing.

Everyone who we came across was helpful and friendly but I just can’t recommend it because of the following. We stayed 3 nights and first morning shower in the lovely shower no problem at all. Second morning, circa 8am I’m all soaped up in the shower and the cold water had disappeared. I could not get anything through and had to rinse off in extremely hot water. We called down as my friend had still to have her shower and the receptionist said she would have the maintenance man adjust the pump and cold water would come through in 5 minutes. It did. There was no cold water at sink taps either so clearly a water pressure issue. Day 3, the day we were leaving, same again cold water disappeared whilst having my shower. The hot water was so very hot that I had to stand to one side and cup my hands to splash water on to myself to rinse off. No cold water from sink taps. Called down the receptionist said she would investigate and call back. She didn’t and when I rang down again about 20 minutes later she said that no one else was having a problem. I said that despite that, we were and asked her to get someone to fix it or can we use another room for a shower. We waited a few more minutes and went down to breakfast and it was fixed by the time we got back. I can except loss of water due to circumstances beyond the control of a hotel but not when it would appear to be a controllable facility in house.

Although the hotel itself is tranquil it is on a main road and we had a room at the front of the building and found it too noisy.

Dear Lisa,
Thank you for your comment. We are aware that there is no second chance to make a good first impression, however, the service is a key part of Matildas' experience, so we are disappointed to know that he found certain aspects of his stay to be deficient.
We addressed your comments with our team immediately, and we will continue to train all those who are part of Matildas so they can deliver exceptional service.
We hope you can stay with us again and can see how much we have been improving.
King regards,
