We booked our accommodation at Boracay Beach Club based on the very positive reviews and overall rating (4.5) seen on TripAdvisor. As it was low season (travelled end of September), there was considerable overall availability on the island.
BBC organized the airport transfer for us (from Kalibo) and I am happy to say that our transfer from Kalibo to the hotel was without a problem. Unfortunately when we got to our room, the letdown started:
-Dead ants on top of the bed, easily visible. I do not know how they were missed by housekeeping staff.
-Broken shower head that sprayed half the water onto the walls with the rest getting where it was meant to.
-Unusable wifi in the room: Although the strength of the wireless signal was good, the internet connection itself went at a crawl. I had to sit on couches in the lobby to properly access the internet.
-TV with challenging remote and buzzing: The IR sensor on the TV had about a 1 m and 5 deg working range. The TV itself made intermittent high-pitch buzzing noises that did not take long to give headaches.
-Stain on the bed sheets on our final night: For us, this experience was the last straw that made us especially look forward to our departure the next day. When we returned to the room after a days outing we noticed a clear stain on the duvet corner. We mentioned this to the front desk and asked it to be changed while we were out at dinner. Sadly, when we got back to the room after dinner, the stain was still there and they had neglected to change it.
In an attempt to rectify the issues (or bribe us from a poor review?), the staff sent a bottle of champagne and two glasses to our room. They must have not noticed over the three nights that we stayed there that my wife is five months pregnant.
For the price, we expected much more.
