This hotel has a grand foyer, a good Western selection at breakfast, and nice staff. There are a few Chinese restaurants situated around it, and a 24hr small convenience store. The subway station is SUPER close (a 5min walk) & 3 stops away you are in the city with access to Western restaurants like Wagas, Element Fresh, Blue Frog, and 3 or 4 large malls that contain everything including a big Apple Store. The prices for rooms are average and as per usual the room service menu is very expensive. However, in this price bracket you can get a lot worse, so I enjoyed this hotel.

We have now stayed in this hotel 3 times and each time we visit (in October) they have the air-con turned off despite many warm days/nights and our frequent complaints. As our room average around 25 degrees we requested (a number of times) for the air-con to be turned on and windows to be unlocked to let some cool air inside. If the air temperature is too hot and cannot be controlled then is hard to sleep well – a basic expectation in any hotel. Very disappointing for what was once a top hotel.

Room Tip: Go elswhere!

Stayed 2 nights on business, the weather was very bad so we ate in hotel restaurant the first night, food was really good and service was ok also.
Second night ventured out to taste local food found restaurant across the road amongst many that was ok.
Hotel is clean and staff polite but the bed was Chinese soft (similar to concrete) location is good not far from motor way so not stuck in traffic. To do business with factory's it's a good place to stay and will stay again.

I work in Nanjing 1 or 2 times a year and accommodation is paid for by work arrangements. The price is reasonable considering I'm there for 2 to 3 weeks at a time. The problems is that I probably get the worst rooms because I'm a captured client and the better rooms are made available for tourists and the usual Chinese weekenders that love the place. For me 3 out of 4 times the air con does not work and management claim it's turned off in Winter. This is policy for Chinese Hotels but shouldn't be the case for international standard hotels. Clearly this hotel is not international and that's one reason I'm allowed to stay there paid by Chinese funds.
The hotel is impressive in its grandeur but it is old. I wouldn't hold that against them and the price is appropriate for its age. The website is WAY out of date. There hasn't been an Italian restaurant in the building for at least 4 years (despite the signs in one elevator and the web page saying it's on the top floor). So some signs haven't changed in 4 years and neither has the menu changed (breakfast nor dinner). If you get a room with a non-functioning air con, expect humid air with the slight smell of burnt bearings (from the fans in the central system) to permeate your room. If you're lucky you might get a room with a window that opens, otherwise just suck it up for your stay. Staff are friendly and will help where they can. Guys at the front door are usually really good. Rooms are old and showing the wear. It's true the showers are in need of renovation and many are moldy.

Room Tip: If you go in Chinese Autumn, insist on checking that the room has active aircon. It can get hot and humid without it
