we had a wonderful and unforgottable birthday evening at The Lobby. The foods quality is best we had and the cake that hotel prepared for us, which was very tasty. Of course the resturant enviroment was so good as well. we will go there again!!

The Peninsula is an icon in Hong Kong and high tea is a legend. The locals come to show off, Asian come as they know it from HK drama and tourists come to spend much too much.
The lobby where you sit is really elegant and posh but it's just a lobby so expect lots of passers by looking into your plate. If possible ask for a table close to the windows. You are given two menus - high tea set and a standard menu. No point looking into the second one - prices are crazy there. The best option is high tea set from the first menu which costs 388 per person and 688 for two people. Additional promotion is for champagne - 220 per glass. The set is so mediocre, average and overpriced that ordering just one is enough for two people. It comes with tea or coffee so you need to order additional tea for something around 70 hkd. Opt for tea in a set as it comes with a jug of tea and a jug of hot water which is constantly refilled. So at the end of a day you can be sitting there 4 hours drinking your tea and chewing the set.
Well, the set... That was a big disappointment. It comes on the 3 plates - upper one with sweet cakes, middle one with salty-meaty ones and the lower one with two scones that come with a saucepan of cream cheese and one with strawberry jam. All pastry is doll size, just good for a tiny Chinese lady size 0. For a decent westerner it's not enough for a quarter of a bite. Some are so ridiculous that they left me speechless - white toast bread with cucumber cut in triangle of the size of a woman palm.... The scones were stale but my one year old loved them.
Altogether it's bloody expensive and not worth the money. The only solution is to order as little as possible, definitely tea with endless topup and stay as long as possible. A string quartet will make your stay pleasurable;)
The best we experienced were two small chocolates given with a bill. They looked like a half of a berry or plum. Really tasty. The champagne was good too but 220 per glass is really Hong Kong style price.

It is always busy but great to have a drink when you return to the Hotel after shopping. The 4 piece band on the balcony overlooking the lobby is a reminder of times past.

Celebrate birthday here with free 1 for 4 offer. The atmosphere is excellent with live concert music. However, the taste of food may need to have improvement especially the main dish, may consider add some Chinese dish in the birthday set menu.
