Tonkatsu when I was young and on a low budget in Japan was a lifesaver - nutritious, filling, very affordable. The fried pork cutlets, by custom served with shredded cabbage, a sharp mustard, and a sweetish dark sauce, are on many Japanese restaurant menus around the world but rarely done as well as at home. This place comes close, though I think the mustard was still not quite as sharp as it should be. But that may be me being nostalgic.

Good food, good ambiance, good view, good service ! Though cutlet style, you cannot find a single drop of oil at the bottom of the dish ! And the finely shredded cabbage will sure help to relieve any remaining fear of deep-fried food.

The décor is good, food quality is good, but not impressed with the service. I ordered the deluxe Sashimi dish. When it arrived, it had great presentation and was looking forward to enjoying the dish. However, I always enjoy clearing my palate with a bit of ginger and a little o' cha between each cut of fish. I asked the waitress for pickled ginger. Her words were "we don't have, we know sashimi and walked away!". I thought that her attitude was rude and condescending. I had asked her in a nice way.

I do know a little about Japanese food, since I have been eating Japanese food since the 1960s. This includes Japan, Okinawa, and of course Hawaii.

Things to note:
1/ pricey....~hk$250 per common plate...some sort of katsu, rice, soup, shredded cabbage salad, modest portions
2/ i usually get the seafood stuff and skip the chicken or pork
3/ as good as tokyo, which means light and very crispy
4/ even the tartar sauce is delicious, although very rich
5/ one knock is that they lack the traditional japanese salad dressing
6/ unlimited rice and cabbage
7/ there is one in IFC
