Should come here during tea time (2pm), you can get the better price for combo of milk tea and toast. Try the peanut butter toast!

My family (parents, wife and I) dined at Tai Hing during a recent visit to HK. We were looking forward to having roasted food (e.g. goose, pork and chicken) but didn't want to burn a hole in our pocket by dining at the more reputable restaurants (think Kam's and Yat Lok). Tai Hing is centrally located in the heart of the Causeway Bay shopping district and it's a short walk from Times Square (and the MTR).

As with other cha chan tengs in HK, this was a small set up with no more than 15 tables in a small, tight setting. As we arrived at around 8pm on a weekday evening, we didn't have to wait for a table for 4 (at the back of house). The menu is in both Chinese and English and ordering wasn't difficult. We each had a different roasted dish with rice. The food was served very promptly, along with a large plate of vegetables, and a drink (with a small top up if you wanted to change the drink).

The roasted food was good and portions very decent. In particular, the roast goose and soya sauce chicken were particularly memorable, while the roasted pork was a little bit on the fatty side (but quite typicaly for HK style roasted meats, as compared to, say, Singapore/ Malaysia). Service, as you would expect, was nothing to shout about and they were a little annoyed when I spilled my glass of water on the table.

If you happen to be in the Causeway Bay area and looking for affordable HK roasted meats, Tai Hing is a good choice for a quick and decent meal. I understand that Tai Hing has other outlets across HK.

We were in Lee Garden Road central Hong Kong checking out the street market and looking for a good and economical place to eat. You know how it is you don’t always want a full on restaurant meal but you don’t want a mere snack either. This Tai Hing is small and concentrates on roast pork and duck dishes. We chose a roast barbecue pork and rice dish and a roast pork with crackling and rice dish. We also asked for some veg and were given two small plates of delicious cod type lettuce fried in peanut oil gratis. Both pork dishes were excellent, tender and tasty and the rice was perfectly cooked. The whole meal for two plus two cups of tea came to 139 Hong Kong dollars, good value.
