Great place to go over a weekend. The cable car is closed now for an undisclosed amount of time due to some repair works (it got stuck over the Chinese New Year week with many people being stranded, and many dangling in mid air braving the 4 deg C chills).

Driving up to the Big Buddha is amazing, swirling through the winding mountain route, and if you're lucky, able to see beautiful views of the sea. It was a very cloudy day when we drove up, but since the clouds were rather low, you will go above them to see the clear blue sky and 'bobbing' mountain tops over the clouds.

Truly a must visit - consider the buses that ply the way up. Beats waiting for the cable cars which can take forever thanks to the long queue.

A very cold, long ride through the grey clouds to the top of the hill, where it was even colder & raining. I thought a 20 min queue was bad enough when I got there, the queue at the bottom must have been a couple of hours when I came back down.

We have been going to Ngong Ping for the last ten years, we hike up, cycle up, drive up and have even used the cable car. Whilst still a great place to visit it is now over commercialized with Starbucks and a 711......not good, very plastic.......a real shame!

This is really tough but at 6pm up on the mountain, all the shops without exception slam their doors and windows shut and you are stuck waiting in a 2 hour line to get on the cable car back. I felt really used. To make it worse, you will ride the cable car back in pitch blackness - I mean pitch blackness - until you come over the hill where you can finally see the airport. The cable car ride itself is not for the squeamish - the elevation of the car ride was a lot higher than I ever would have thought. And there are vents on the floor so you can look straight down from the car itself.

The extra money for the crystal cars is worth it. A great trip, can get cold on the ride and at the top.
