Review of Dragon Hostel

I wasn't really expecting much knowing that I had only paid 300hkd a night. So when I got to my room I wasn't surprised that the room was tiny and the bathroom was the size of a closet. What's important was the bathroom didn't have those gross molds around the tiles. The room showed obvious wear and tear and the television could use some dusting. But the room was cozy enough to get a good night's sleep despite the fact that the walls were thin you could hear other people's conversations. I must have been lucky because by the time I went to sleep, which usually was around 12mn, it was already quiet enough to get some shut eye. I was given room number 6 which was the first room other guests would pass first to get to their own rooms. Or maybe I was just really tired everyday that it was easy to go to sleep. To cut it short, yes, the walls are thin. Location was excellent, lots of cheap and clean food surrounding the area. Malls and small shops are abundant, since its in Mongkok. Didn't hear noise from the outside since my room didn't have windows. Perfect for shopaholics who like myself who just really need a place to sleep. Service was also great. I didn't have a hard time checking-in because the lady who checked me in couldn't speak English so she called up Stanley to speak to me. The staff who could speak English were polite and could actually speak English well. I think it was Stanley who was manning the front desk when I left and he was always smiling and helpful. If you're not claustrophobic and just looking for a cheap and clean place to sleep, then I'd recommend Dragon Hostel. I forgot to mention that the wifi signal was great in my room.
Date of stay: July 2012
Room Tip: I really liked room 6 which was not in the same area as the front desk. Wifi signal was great....

After reading the reviews, I felt like this hostel would be our best place to stay. We booked two private rooms here. Hong Kong was a bit intimidating considering I'd never been here before. However the hostels website gave very clear instructions on how to find them, and it worked out well.
The building is not attractive, and the accomodations are basic and small. However it had everything we needed. There was even a fridge outside the room we could use.
The location is great. This area is wonderful. The market is very cool to walk through, and theres lots of shopping here. Also, there is a McDonalds across the street, lots of local food, and two 7-11s. The subway is also just about a block away.
The staff was nice although their english is limited. We got discounted tickets to Disneyland and the discount was substantial.
The only major negative here was that I found the mattress to be very hard, to the point where it was hard to sleep. Maybe this is standard in Hong Kong, but it was very uncomfortable.
Another thing to note is, the shower is a showerhead located above the toilet. This wasn't an issue to me, but some people may not like it.
Overall we enjoyed our stay here because of the location and the very reasonable price. I would definately stay here again, but perhaps bring an air mattress to add to the bed.

I was kinda surprised with how old the building could be but everything they offered is worth every single penny you paid. The location is great, it's walking distance to all the shopping centres, ladies street etc. When you gets hungry at midnight, there's a 24 hours congee shop, mcdonalds and snacks stalls and also convenience store.

Room and toilet is really small. The bed too...but in HK that's quite expected especially it's a hostel. I like the location of the hostel, yes I agree the building is run down and not pleasing to the eye. As we are not in the hostel most of the time, I am ok with the room. But not for those who like to spend time in the room - this is not a good choice as it's rather cramped.

Room & toilet - small and clean. Have never seen such a small toilet before...
Location - near Mong Kok MRT station, ladies street and also many shops and restaurants within walking distance
Service - Good service provided

My next trip to HK I will consider staying there again.

Room tip: Better to choose single bed as the double bed is really small...

I'm ONLY giving this hostel an average because I think it IS the average hostel there in Hong Kong, but if you compare it with the rest of the world and even just the rest of Asia, it's a sad stay. To say the room was small, is an understatement (see pics on our travel site www.ChaseTheSummer.com if you're up for a laugh! Go into Gallery, Hong kong) and the bathroom was literally probably AT MAX 16 sq. feet!! And I think im being generous there!

Also, our room was on the 13th floor so waiting for the elevator every time you went to and from, was a task all on its own. I have nothing more to say as there was so little to this room. If you can afford it I would stay in a hotel, if not this place isnt awful.

Room tip: Don't pack a lot, there's no room for it

This hostel was seriously over rated, it was on the 7th floor of a residential building, and the surrounding area and corridors were very rundown. The staff could hardly speak English and the room was tiny. I spent 2 hours in the room before checking out and finding another hotel on one of the 'last minute' booking sites. The hostel did refund me for the remaining days but I still paid for that first day I checked in.
