“Good hôtel. May be better”
Reviewed 31 March 2012

excellent location in Kowloon close to everything.

Had a nice room with great harbour view but quite small as often in China. Decent not outstanding breakfast. Noisy clim. Paying internet access in the room - unpleasant and loss of time, did not work the first time .

A good hôtel but may become a better one.

Before I traveled, I noted that several reviews of this hotel mentioned the breakfast buffet, the price etc so I was aware that it would cost about $14, but that with so many nearby places to eat, this pricey option could be easily overcome.

So true. But I did eat breakfast there, twice, over two weeks, and discovered the cost was $148 HKD plus 10 percent service charge (about $20 CAD / USD). Now in Canada, when one pays upwards of $20 for any buffet, one usually gets a pretty decent buffet.

Not so with this hotel buffet: most of the foods seemed to be leftovers from the dinner buffet the night before. The dimsum was doughy, the scrambled eggs had me wondering what they had done to make them so rubbery and un-egglike, the carrots were drowned in water, the noodles were tasteless. The fresh fruit (two choices), congee (with toppings, a personal favourite) oatmeal and cereal were okay.

Why did I eat there twice? To make sure that the first time was not a blip due to staff shortages at Chinese New Year.

But the hotel itself is well located, the staff pleasant and accommodating, the room lovely. I was more than happy to make coffee in my room, then head out to a nearby McDonalds and get my scrambled eggs, sausage patty, home fries and coffee for under $4 USD/ CAD, and enjoy it a whole lot more.

Note: the pool is closed for about 4 months over the winter season, and the spa/massage therapist are not on-site, but called into the hotel spa area as needed.

Room Tip: Note in Non-smoking Hong Kong, the hotel dedicates several floors as Smoking, but books rooms in non...

I enjoyed the location of this hotel, as it was within walking distance of many shops and places to eat. The hotel was clean and the internet speeds were acceptable. For the most part the staff was nice, except for a few staff members that gave this rating lower than what it could be. I had an unpleasant experience with some staff in the Empire Club. Even though I had access to this section, I was approached with an unpleasant accusation that I was in the club without the access to it. After checking my room to see that I DID have access to the Club, an apology was given, then it was all kind words. I don’t know if I was being judged by my appearance or they are normally that rude. Besides the few rude staff members, the hotel is not too bad.

This Hotel would rank higher if it wasnt for the customer service. Some of the employees were very good but they were off set by the bad ones. I booked a room that granted access to the Empire Club. But when I went to use the club the conversation went this way, "excuse me sir you are not supposed to be here." Why not was my reply. They came back with, "This is for our valued guest that have paid extra" I did pay extra for this service I would tell them, and after a check of my room number a profuse apology followed, but the damage had been done. This happened to me twice in three days. I am guessing the level of customer service they provide is based on the appearance of the guest. Other than the poor customer service there is really nothing wrong with this Hotel. Rooms are small, location is not too bad, just a short walk to the MTR and Nathian Road. If you just need a place to rest your head in Hong Kong this will do but dont expect much for the staff.
