Service: fast and efficient service. No extra questions everything just happened.
They even could bring the food at the same time so everything is warm. Can really get that service.

Food: dim sum and shrimp dishes recommended. Avoid chicken

Foo Lum (should be called "Fu Lum") restaurants are very popular with the local people as there are many branches in Hong Kong and the prices are reasonable. It offers Chinese (Cantonese) food from morning till late night. In the afternoon, special discounts apply. It is not an upmarket restaurant but is ideal for a lunch or dinner, as the service is quite fast (except during public holidays or weekends, when the restaurants are crowded).

It's the middle of the Lunar New Year holiday and we're wondering what might be open and fairly priced for a large group of friends. Foo Lum, in the heart of Wanchai, fit the bill nicely. It's a long-established place, I've been going there for years, and to be honest when I read some of the other reviews I wonder if we are all talking about the same restaurant.

Foo Lum offers a wide variety of local "comfort food," delivered quickly, well prepared, and really tasty. For this visit, our group was large enough that we could order nearly everything on the menu, and nothing disappointed. Their sweet-and-sour pork (sorry! but I'm a "Gweilo"!) has that semi-crunchy exterior that makes the dish so much nicer. The beef short ribs actually do have a deep beefy flavour missing in so many other Hong Kong beef dishes. The broccoli was nicely firm and fresh. And so on ...

There are reasons why this restaurant and others like it are so popular. First, there aren't as many as before. Second, all things considered, they are cheap. Third, they are reliable. And as for catering to foreigners, is there some particular reason why they should? I'm foreign, and don't announce out loud to the staff that I live here and can speak the language. True, Foo Lum's menus (they have several) may lack English. But some staff do speak English and will help.

Would I go back? Of course, but it's best with a large group so everyone gets something they like.

I would not call this a "nice" Restuarant. It is a massive eatery for the locals, just a little more upmarket than an eatery. The price points are reasonable and so many locals patronize this place & is super popular. Many are regulars. There is a buzz at anytime of the day. From morning dim sum to dinner at night. You even need to get a queue number !! It runs like a clockwork.

Quality of food? Acceptable but if I am on a calorie count, I would not spend my calorie budget here. The 小籠飽'skin is too thick. Steamed items were average but the fried items were ok.

We were checking this out because all our favorite dim sum restaurants in the vicinity have moved away, due to high rentals. This is the next nearest.

Go early. The early bird discount makes it worthwhile. Not the normal pricing.

Finally, go with someone who can read Chinese characters. It is a very local place.

We were trying to find a nice Chinese restaurant and asked somebody and they pointed in the direction of this one. After walking up flights of very dirty stairs thinking we were in a warehouse we arrived in the restaurant. They showed us to a table, we ordered quite a lot off food it took ages to come. After moving tables because of the air con, our food came out. They had sent out raw chicken, it had blood all underneath. We sent it back and they then sent out sea food noodles and the noodles were rock solid, u could actually snap them. The restaurant was filthy in general. We knew we should have turned back as soon as we saw it. We didn't eat and asked for the bill. They had added on a charge for peanuts, water, and tea which we didn't have. Plus a service charge. Was not a good experience. We left hungry and disappointed. That's not too mention 3 random children standing next to our table for the duration of our "meal" one with his finger in his nose the entire time !! Lovely!
