We stayed in the apartment with 3 children, young and pre-teen. It was very near the bus station or a short-ish walk to the metro station and easy for taxi drivers to find (taxis are very cheap). It was also walking distance from one of the gates and temples, the post office, a Carrefour supermarket; restaurants (where they don't speak English but we managed).
The apartment was very spacious, clean and very warm (it was freezing weather). The hosts' parents greeted us and Jason booked us a taxi to the airport on the way home, with confirmation by email. He was very responsive to any questions and his English is excellent. He even kept our mobile phone for us which one of the kids left under a pillow, and meet a friend of ours in Beijing a few weeks later - a great favour ! Thank you.
This was perhaps one of the most easiest time when renting an apartment. The landlord spoke English!!!! He contacted me several hours after the request, he was so kind as to write special letters for the embassy for me and my friends and which is more, he agreed to be paid upon arrival as there were problems with bank transfer.
The landlord also sent me a letter in Chinese to show to the taxi driver so that he could easily find the right place! We were met by a nice English-speaking man, who gave us key, explained everything about the flat and disappeared (which is a great plus, to my mind).
The flat is in a nice and quiet place, not far from main attractions and so I highly recommend it as a place to stay in Beijing.
