I am a self confessed market shopaholic, and having explained that, this place was heaven to me. There are around 8 floors of different items grouped into like things on each floor eg shoes/bags, sports/outdoor wear, homewares, pearls etc. it is a comfortable place to shop being reasonably modern and having escalators/lifts to change floors. Make sure you know or have an idea of what you'd pay for something before you start asking prices and negotiating. So let's say you want a Tshirt and you recon it should be $5-10Aud, then after their 1st offer bid slightly less than the price you'd pay. Sometimes what they want could be 10 times or only 2 times what you might pay. Then I only move upwards at very small levels to stay close to what I will pay, and sometimes you have to be prepared to walk away and they will often come after you. Morning is best to shop because many Asian countries believe the 1st sale of the day is lucky and are prepared to sell at a lower price to start the day with good luck. Anyway, give it a go....

Went there in 2006 just before the Olympics and again in 2017. Great place for shopping but don't buy SD cards, cameras, phones, or anything electrical as they are not genuine and our SD card and camera didn't work properly. Clothing, pearls/beads, watches, handbags, glasses/frames (take your prescription from here) are all great buys. Be prepared to haggle and don't always accept the first price, offer about 1/2 and be prepared to pay 2/3rds or less. Walk away if necessary there are plenty more shops with the same products. You will be hassled, but don't let it get to you!

I went twice. Once in the morning on a week day, and the other over a weekend. The best would be during the week when it's not that busy.
Everything here is basically replicas of the real goods. Some are seriously good quality.
Your haggling skills are tested to the extreme over here. Whatever they quote you, start haggling from about 10% of the quote and don't buy if it goes over 20% of original price. Be prepared to walk away and go look somewhere else.
At the end of the day if you are happy with the price you paid for your purchase , then all is good for both you and the seller.
Be prepared to spend a couple of hours over here. There is a big food court as well to keep your energy up!

Pearls, silk, clothes, shoes, jewelry, watches, handbags...all in one location. Many vendors speak English. If you like to find a deal and do not mind negotiating, this is your shopping destination. It is not for the faint of heart shopper!

The silk market is one of the few places where everyone speaks English. Lots of trinkets and “stuff” to buy but generally overpriced and you have to be good at negotiating. Feel free to walk away if not happy with price. Not genuine products mostly good imitations got almost 40% discount from asking prices. Don’t feel guilty the prices are over-inflated for tourists
