The Antenna gives great views in pollution free weather. The rotating restaurant is 300RMB for a meal. The Observatory just over 100RMB. There is a cheesy TV studio mock up up the tower, and some over tit tat nick nack shops on the ground floor with token magicians and weird shows. The main star is the view though. I've been up at night and in day light - go up in daylight.

Definitely worth visiting if you have the time.
The tower when it lights up at night is quite beautiful. Most Beijinger's wouldn't recommend you coming here if it's your first time in Beijing.

While it is beautiful it's not worth the time and effort to come here there are much more beautiful and much more famous towers elsewhere in the world.

Summary-
While beautiful...not worth seeing if you don't have the time to do so.

This was my second visit of the tower. The first time I only made some pictures from the ground because of the weather. Now I had the chance of a almost clear sky, which is good enough for Beijing.
First I had problems buying the ticket with my card, so if you plan to get to the tower prepare those 70RMB. There is an extra ticket for the restaurant if interested.
Once you get to the open deck you realize it's a lot colder out there. I was there in the evening, and it was very windy (expected) and freezing cold! If you plan to stay longer than 15 minutes bring gloves and hats. They have some jackets there to use, but it's the hands that will suffer most.
If you are a photographer, and you want some good shots, get a stable tripod, a heavy one. Mine was too light and couldn't face the wind problem. Notice that at one moment when it gets darker outside, the lights will be turned on, towards the tower itself, and this will ruin any short range photos; you need proper lens hood for that
With proper equipment and patience you will get the shots you came for.

It is only after a lap of the open air observation platform that one grasps the reality of a city with over 20 million people. The size of Beijing is enormous but strategic design and layout make for a modern and well organised city. The tower experience unlocks city profile and makes one understand the place.
