I must first congratulate Robert Yang for his entrepreneurship in offering such accommodation to budget travelers.
But he should improve his customer service quality.
First, he runs it as a one man business. But he should have some reliable backup when he is not available. When we were there he was enjoying a holiday in Las Vegas.
He was supposed to arrange train tickets for us to travel to Nanjing. AT the last moment he informed us that the driver who would pick us up would organise that. However, the driver who picked us up, was obviously his friend and worked elsewhere after droppping us at the apartment builidng to Robert's mother and telling her to organise our train tickets, left. We had just arrived in a new city after a 12 hour journey. Robert's mother, however well intentioned she was, did not understand that and did not speak a single word of English and dragged us two elderly people out onto the streets apparently to buy the train tickets. It was quite clear that she did not know where to go or how to go there and asked people on the way for directions etc. Finally, explained to her with gestures that we were tired and wanted to rest and return back to the apartment, which we did.
The room was OK. The beds and other facilities other than the airconditioner was OK. We asked a young boy who worked in an office just opposite our room to help us turn on the heater on the airconditioner. He tried his best but the conditioner did not work.
Robert returned two days before we were leaving and came over to check the AC. He tried to turn it on but could not. He called the maintenance man who came without his tools and said that he would be back again in the afternoon with his tools. He came and could not fix it. He said that he would come back the next day. Finally, Robert said that he would fix it the next day - i.e, after we would be gone.
Advice for Robert.
(a) he should use a reliable backup person who speaks English when he is gone
(b) before letting out a room he should make sure that all essential items like the heater, tTv, kitchen items and the washing machines are working.
The good point was the washing machine and the drier which were both working.
The TV had only English program.
He should have mentioned beforehand that in Beijing one cannot use gmail and google and what are the alternative services.
He should visit similar establishments in Indonesia (Bali), Phillippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia etc and learn more about customer service and then he will do very well .

Stayed in May, although not in the same as depicted in the photographs- ours had two king sized beds with the same layout. The entrance, hallways and common areas leading upto the apartment was shabby and dingy. The apartment itself was neat and tidy with all appliances and equipment working and in place but starting to show age. Location was perfect, 10 minutes equidistant to two subway stations, convenience stores, phone recharges, eateries, two malls and everything else you will possibly need in 5 minutes. Most importantly, Robert the owner was invaluable. He organized airport pick up, tickets to shows and tours to the great wall, summer palace, temple of heaven, etc. He even looked after our luggage during our two day excursion to Xian. A big thank you !! Is available 24/7 for all your needs. His team of drivers and staff were proficient in English which was a huge positive.

Our stay at the Beijing Yuanjia Apartment was great. Excellent location in between 2 subway stations, Dongzhimen & Dongsishitiao, and also to the bus station and Airport Express, all within 5 mins walk. Restaurants, banks, spa, grocery store and 2 shopping malls and etc, all in the same street. There's a 24 hour Chinese restaurant downstairs. Our room on the 6th floor, the Family Studio, has 2 king beds and 1 sofa bed, which can fit in 5 people. Kitchenette with complete kitchenware, microwave oven, electric kettle, cooking range, range hood, refrigerator, LCD TV, Wall Mounted Aircon, Washing Machine, Clothes Dryer, Electric Iron with Ironing Board, Wardrobe, slippers, hair dryer, floor mop, bucket, brush, pan, foldable clothes hanger and the Hot & Cold Water Dispenser, which came in very handy during our stay.(cooking breakfast and coffee). Hot and Cold Shower. The room door is security coded so no need for keys, which was very convenient for us, as anybody in our group can easily go in & out anytime, just remember the code. The WIFI in the room was good and oh, there's a balcony/terrace in our room where you can relax, sipping your coffee, feeling the cool air outside. The owner, Robert, was very nice and speaks good English. Aside from upgrading our room from King Studio to Family Studio, he allowed us to stay in our room until 10pm (late check-out) while waiting for our flight at 1am. (without charges). There is also airport transfer service available, which we availed at a minimal fee. I highly recommend this "HOME AWAY FROM HOME" apartment for groups and families seeking a safe, quiet & relaxing vacation in Beijing.

This Yuanjia apartment was well suited to our needs. The photos on the website certainly look a little more upmarket than the real thing but it was adequate for our needs. A little maintenance would be helpful eg shower nozzle holder didn't work, hot plates didn't seem to work (there was a portable one that worked well in the cupboard), could have had more western cutlery, curtains need some minor fixing, no tray or soap holder in shower and no bath mats or hand towels seemed a little odd. In saying all that the apartment was in a great location. Close to transport, shopping, post office and restaurants. We were able to wash clothes, cook meals and get about to everything we needed to do. I find the Chinese beds to be very hard but that is not a criticism of the apartment just an observation. This apartment was more than adequate for our needs it could just do with a little smartening up.
