My husband and I heard about this place from our friends. We booked a room at the Brickyard for 2 nights, taking advantage of the package deal. We loved everything about it. It is eco-friendly with great thought given to architecture, gardens and hardscapes. Everything is up to western standards (and beyond!) but it is not "fussy." It is in a great village - so quiet (no car horns, just crickets chirping!!) in what used to be an old tlle factory. The staff is so friendly, the food at local places is great as well as at the Schoolyard. We did some great hiking on the wall under a beautiful blue sky and later ate a wonderful meal at the Schoolyard. We may visit again in the spring when the pool and spa are done!!

The Brickyard was an excellent weekend getaway from busy Beijing. I'm on temporary assignment and live & work in downtown Beijing so this was a perfect spot to relax, read, walk, hike the wall, and unwind. I also had lunch at the Schoolhouse and dinner at one of the local restaurants close by where the staff was kind enough to translate the menu and make suggestions. The staff and accomodations were the best and a great value. I've passed my recommendation onto to others in our office.

We recently returned from a six day trip to the Beijing area, and the three days we spent at the Brickyard exploring the Great Wall and the surrounding villages were by far the highlight. The hotel is lovely- the rooms are beautifully designed with natural materials, comfortable beds, rain showers and full wall windows with views of the Great Wall. It is not possible to darken the room, but the hotel provides eyemasks. There is a beautiful hike that leads from the village directly to Tower 21 of the great wall and countryside, and other smaller hikes through the surrounding countryside.
Gregory, who hosted us during our stay, was helpful and attentive.
The owner is building a pool and plans to run Tai Chi workshops in the near future.
This is the ideal place to get a bit of nature one hour from the bustle of Beijing. There is no better place to stay if you want to stay overnight and explore the Great Wall and small countryside villages. Highly recommended!!!

Finally, there is now a nice place to stay overnight while experiencing the spectacular Great Wall of China. This place is a renovated kiln factory, and rooms 1-1 to 1-4 have special balconies, but all rooms have huge windows directly overlooking the Great Wall in the distance. It's an unforgettable scene, and this boutique hotel is by far the best option for anyone traveling to Mutianyu for an overnight stay.

The room is first rate and nicely designed, and the lobby is also nice and quiet in this boutique hotel. Service is very personal and competent. The nearby Schoolhouse restaurant has a nice, Western-style menu.

The only small problem was the lack of adequate curtains to block all light, as the floor-to-ceiling windows are not yet fully covered. And one thing they have no control over is the daily 7am loudspeaker that plays all over every village in China, every day for the last 60 years.
