"Real" Non Smoking Policies just arrived to Beijing a year ago... So don't expect a very clean and lavender smelling hotel... Mercure Downtown is OLD (yes...) but its location its one of the best (for the price) around this area. Concierge and Staff are quite friendly (they can arrange taxi, private transport, guided tours, etc..), their buffet breakfast is not the best but at least you can find something you could like. Recommended for business travelers and short stays only. In DaWangLu street are several bus stops (few meters away from this hotel), Line 1 Subway Station (B Exit in Times SOHO), is around 1KM, so you can walk if you like.

Room Tip: All rooms are quite alike

We had a good holiday its a shame this hotel treats westerners like mugs.

Cold swimming pool , constant smell of smoking in our room , hot room , bad air conditioning. Hot tub turned off in the mens.

Its just a joke the manager would keep turning off the heating in the pool when we didn't use it for a few days , what a tight person.

Mercure need to investigate this hotel , apparently the hotel staff dont need to maintain the quality this brand produces elsewhere.

On the brightside like otherwise have said the food is epic awesome sauce. Best breakfasts ive had in a hotel!

The hotel rooms were fantastic ... We stayed in a junior suite for 12 nights ..lovely and quiet . i wouldn't want to go in the summer there is no air-conditioning ... We had a unit delivered but it only heated the room more .near the subway and far enough out of the city to be quiet and enjoy the locals . breakfast was fantastic and plenty on offer . no staff speak English . the only problem we had was the leisure facilities ... The pool was not heated I complained 3 times and was told the turn it off when the hotel is quiet . the huge hot tub is in the men's changing rooms and has been bone dry empty for a long time . the sauna is usable but only if you go down and get the staff to turn it on 40 minutes before you need it . overall disappointed with the leisure as this is the reason we booked this hotel over other more central ones . another tip is the small shop across the road ... Buy bottles of soda on your way into the city for 30p or to take into your room at the end of the night !

The hotel itself was lovely - the rooms are terrible!

Stuffy (even opening the tiny little window did not help and the aircon is switched off and not able to be used in April) and in need of a facelift. The bathroom was full of mould and the glass window separating the bathroom from the bedroom is a terrible idea! Not everyone sharing a room is a couple!

The room safe did not work either.

The bar in the lobby is decent and breakfast was definitely nothing to sneeze at! The pastries were brilliant.

I spent one night there as I was attracted by the location and price. This hotel is old, it smelt cigarette in the room and the bathroom, the furniture and carpets look dirty.
Staff was barely speaking English.
I came with my Accor Card at the Accor card counter for priority checking and they told me I would have to queue with other guests (and there were many): the aim of those fidelity cards is for the guest to get advantages, things they didn't understand.
Anyway, the Accor counter is blocked by a printing machine so I suppose they never give priority to Accor card holders.
Only when I insisted that they agreed.
The staff is nice and helpful but their English proficiency is not crazy.
I would not recommend this hotel.
