Tiananmen Best Year Courtyard Hotel

A real experience in a converted Hutong. Staff were so eager to be helpful, and were a delight. The location is perfect - a quiet back street minutes walk from Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. Great restaurants in the area, and tea/coffee in the hotel courtyard. This is an excellent way to experience such a huge city, and the trip became intimate and personal. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Get the larger rooms. They're quiter.

If you’re looking for culture are understading about the Chinese way of life, this is the place to go to. The design of the hotel and the people is just great. You get the real Chinese deal. I stayed here 4 days and must say that I enjoyed my stay. Mainly because the staff are so nice.

They are so helpful and always willing to do things for you. We never got lost because they wrote every place that we had to go to in Chinese. And they gave us clear directions. I even joined them for visiting the local market to see the way they .

The bathroom are squeaky clean, unlike most of the dirty ones you see in china. Then with that there is free internet and the fact that the place is located so close to the forbidden city and other attractions in the place.

If you’re going to this part of Beijing this is totally the place to say.

Totally recommended!

This excellent hotel/guesthouse has a bit of an identity problem. On some booking web sites it is “Tiananmen Yier Hotel”. However, at the end of the alley on which it is situated (now paved) off Nan Chizi Dajie, the sign points to “Yi Er International Hotel” (i.e. One-Two Hotel). The hotel goes by both names on Tripadvisor. By the end of the alley it is “Best Year International Hotel” and by the front door it is “Best No 1 Hotel”. No wonder the driver had trouble finding it! The hotel is in a gentrified hutong area, just three minutes walk from Tiananmen Square and it thus ideally located for the Forbidden City and other nearby sights. An early morning walk around the alleys makes an interesting introduction to Beijing life, as does an evening walk to Tiananmen Square.
The Yier is run by a family, several of whom speak excellent English. The young man at the front desk will make reservations for travel or things to do in the city. The rooms are arranged around a covered courtyard which has many books (often left by former patrons) and easy chairs and tables at which breakfast is served. There is a refrigerator with bottled water, sodas and beer from which you help yourself with the cost added to the bill. There is also free WiFi. The rooms are simple and clean. Ours had two sleeping areas separated by a screen. The larger area had a double bed and flat screen TV while the front sleeping area had a single bed and desk. Both beds were of the typical hard Chinese variety. At the back is a small but adequate bathroom (shower only). Breakfast is simple. Usually egg, bacon and some toast. Sometimes there was coffee and always there was tea. If such a simple breakfast is not enough, there are several good eating establishments along Nan Chizi Dajie. “Grandma’s Kitchen” serves western style food. At the corner of Nan Chizi Dajie and Donghuamen Dajie is the China Pavilion restaurant. Some of the staff speak English and there is an English menu. The food was excellent with the baby aubergines cooked in a hot skillet being especially good. There is a Citibank ATM here.
In all the Tiananmen Yier made an excellent choice of hotel because of its location, cleanliness and friendly staff. It makes a change from the large rather faceless international hotels. Highly recommended.

Execellent value for money.
Location is the best you can find. It's really close -only five minutes walk- to Forbidden City and Tiannenmen Square. Metro station is also very close and connection all around Beijing is easy. Friendly English speaking staff will lend you a bycicle to wander around or also an umbrella if it is raining.
Rooms are comfortable and all with private bathroom and air conditioned. The building is a real hutong facility just in the middle of a real hutong!
Also we awere invited to do Tai Chi early 6 o'clock in a community courtyard inside the hutong by the owner. An authentic Hutong Life Experience just by the main touristic spots in Beijing.
