It took a little adventure to find the restaurant, but when we did it was worth it. Modern, clean and very comfortable. The food was excellent from the sausages and terrine appetizer (with the obligatory Iberico Ham - magnifico) to my braised oxtail. Colleagues had the cod and an excellent seared tuna belly.

The bar was well-stocked and the wine list was extensive and reasonably priced.

Definitely will put this on my list of keepers.

Agua is a great choice in Beijing for Western food, one of the few which approaches European quality. The suckling pig is excellent, they make excellent tapas, the manchego cheese is exceptional and the wine list features Spanish wines which you don't find in Beijing easily at a reasonable markup. The new dining room in Nali Patio is stylish and romantic, but also great for a larger group. Their rooftop bar, Fez, is a great place to finish the night.

Expensive, yes, by Chinese standards, but...

a GREAT restaurant, fabulous tapas, delicious and original soups and entrees.

And a chocolate mousse-like cake that was superb.

HIGHLY recommended.

On the fourth floor in a lovely neighborhood with clubs and lots of restaurants. Very un China like. Could be a street in Madrid. Agua is lovely place with excellent food and service. Chef is from Barcelona and this is part of a group of several restaurants. If you want a change from the Asian food Agua is highly recommended and spend some time wandering around after dinner. The location is jumping and felt very comfortable.

Agua reopened in Nali Patio recently after closing its previous Qianmen 23 outfit and does not disappoint!

It was recently voted "Best Spanish, 2011" in the local CityWeekend mag, and IMHO , it was the only restaurant that won in any category in that vote that deserved it's title.

For dinner, we had 2 courses each (700+for 2 persons, no alcohol). Appetizers were pleasant, but both mains of roasted Pork Belly (their specialty) and Wagyu beef were done to perfection. The skin of the Pork was roasted to just the right degree and smelt like heaven! The marbling on that Wagyu was also just right and a very good grade of meat too! (not a given in Beijing even in the most expensive western restaurants)

The current location at Nali Patio, unlike the previous Qianmen colonial buildings, is nothing to shout about. But one can always repair to the pretty roof-top bar (I can't remember the name) in the same building after dinner.

It was fully packed on a Thursday night so do reserve in advance. I can't wait to dine there again!
