Cairo museum with its 10,000 artifacts of ancient Egypt history. Fascinated to see the royal mummies that is so well preserved. You will need a separate ticket for camera use and to see the royal mummies. Totally worth it. If you are a historical lover, spend some time to walk around this facility. The new Cairo museum is in construction and will be ready in 2020. That will be the largest museum in the world.

Very exiting to know a lot of the real old history of Egypt. Many things to see and very interesting to know. The children enjoyed it a lot as well. It is near to downtown. You definitely need a tour guide to be able to enjoy the tour.

It's amazing that the ancient Egyptians' fixation with death and afterlife led them to build some of the most wonderful things- jewelry, paintings, statues, etc. The present-day Egyptians are blessed to have found these treasures that the world is so fascinated with.

Unfortunately, the Govt hasn't taken much effort to maintain or market these well. The exhibits do not follow a logical sequence nor do they have detailed placards/ tablets or Audio guides, forcing one to hire a guide. Maybe, that's their strategy.

Now, here is where the problem starts- there is NOTHING to protect the poor unsuspecting tourists from getting a raw deal.
There isn't any mention on the guides' credentials (except for their ID cards), or any communication that specifies what they must cover for what length of time or the rates, really leaving a lot of scope for cheating.

Our guide Ahmad Khattab was one such opportunist.
We settled for 300 EGP for 1.5 hours, but as soon as we entered the museum, he started saying that a minimum of 2 hours is required.
What's more? While he was explaining the exhibits to us, he took on 2 more tourists who happened to be Argentinians, so we had to listen to all explanations in Spanish as well.

What is the Govt doing to protect tourists from this rather unpleasant experience? Nothing! And it is solely for that reason, that I'm giving this museum a 3 star rating, because it may be high on ancient treasures, but it scores low on experience.
They should really study and learn from some of the best museums in the world like the British Museum which we were lucky enough to visit.

This museum is everything you would think it would be. Absolutely stuffed with marvelous antiquities. Pay the separate admission and see the Royal mummies. Plan to spend the day.
