Stayed at the windsor for 5 nights. Good location. Breakfast was disappointing
for the price we paid for the room. I new the price when booking though
because i wanted the deluxe suite. nice large room with plenty of room to
move and huge bathroom, probably if anything it was too big and not worth
the extra expense for the bigger room. would go for the normal room next time.
metro a short walk around the corner. khan-el-khalili 15 min walk. got lost
every time extra for the last day so saw ple

Room Tip: forgot to mention their is a mosque across the road. we did hear it but it didn;t bother us. also you can OPEN the windows and hang over the timber balcony (carefully)if you want and watch cairo scurry by below. we had a nice breeze coming in through the windows which was welcoming and it wasn't too bad. in through the windows.

My daughter and I just spent 8 nights at the Windsor Hotel and it was an extremely pleasant experience from start to finish. From the moment they met us at the airport (at 4:00 am!) to the moment they drove us back, they were unfailingly kind, hospitable and helpful. Samir, on the front desk, set us up with an excellent guide ( Mina ) and driver and lots of excellent advise was offered. The Hotel owner, Mr Doss, was always pleasant, helpful and checking that we were comfortable. The character of the Hotel (Colonial) with the fabulous bar made our stay all the more enjoyable and I especially liked our room (#5) as it is very spacious with lovely original wood furnishings but a modern bathroom. It was spotlessly clean as well. I would recommend this hotel to those looking for a real experience that shouts Old Cairo. OK, it can get noisy since it's centrally located so just bring ear plugs and you'll be fine. : )

Room Tip: Room #5 was super spacious and not too expensive, plus one floor from the excellent bar.

Inspired by Michael Palin and our friends we booked into this hotel too.

The positives: central, close to Cairo Museum, train station and Tarir Square (not sure if it is tempting now). Also, you can book a tour at the hotel to go to Giza or taxi to take you to the airport if you don't want to haggle, metro is close by and it is reasonably priced.

The negatives: hygiene and food. There was no breakfast!! They offered a cup of tea and a pancake (or something that resembled one). The beds were old and shabby - indeed, nothing has changed since Michael Palin went there in the 1980s? Also, I am pretty sure they stole my new shoes whilst we were in the museum. Not a big loss but leaves a bad aftertaste.

All in all, very convenient location. Although it's pretty smelly and dusty outside (not sure what smell prevailed - catpiss or manpiss or both) once you start walking towards the city centre you are fine. Would not recommend it, no. Would I stay there again. Probably not.

Room Tip: On the first floor - the higher it gets, the shabbier the rooms.

Stayed one week at the Windsor downtown. I loved the big rooms and legendary lobby, were the creative elite is hanging out. Everything have changed little over the years and thats how i like it. The staff is so friendly. Specially Fayek Samin was very helpful and arranged a nice trip til the pyramids. All in all a perfect place to stay, close to everything.

Room Tip: wi-fi fungere ind til videre kun på de nederste etager og i lobbyen.
