We just returned from a week in Pandanus Bay Waterfront Apartments in Port Vila and loved it. It was our second trip to Vanuatu but first here, and we won't bother looking anywhere else in the future.

With two teenage boys, having such a huge space and two bathrooms is brilliant. The apartments would easily fit larger families. Having a full kitchen (huge stove top), ice and ice-water fridge made it really easy to cook at the apartments, but it is just a walk or short bus trip to restaurants.

I really disagree with the comment on here that the noise from Pango village is a deal-breaker. The village is next door and we had the apartment closest to it, but it didn't bother us at all (and we come from noiseless Canberra). In fact, we enjoyed hearing the goings-on and walked to the village store for fresh morning bread. If dogs barking REALLY bothers you, then be aware of it. But not a problem at all for us.

Service was brilliant; friendly and informative but not in your face. Ultra clean and the beds are good - much better than most hotels. The furnishings are great and good screens in place so no bugs at all.

These are full size apartments that are really big. It was great for a week, but a month would be better. There is good snorkeling straight off the beach here, and pickups or the local buses to go anywhere else or for diving.

Wife and I booked Pandanus Bay for the month of January 2014. We had never been to Vanuatu before and took a chance on this location. We were coming down from Canada and had always wanted to check out these Islands. It worked out superbly. The hosts, James and Claudine couldnt have been better. Friendly, gracious, always a smile to say hello and a helpful hint about activities or connections on the Island to get you going. The units themselves are beautifully done. New, large, efficient apartments with modern full kitchen. Huge balconey overlooking the water of Pandanus Bay. The staff of maids and gardeners there are all locals and also a great bunch. Room was kept spotless. Nice beds .. this one I dont say lightly at all, as I have stayed in many "5 Star" Joints that have have older tired beds that need replacing. Pango Village is just down the road, and is a great locale to be based if you go to Efate. Local folk are probably the friendliest people you will EVER come across on a vacation. Really! Lonely Planet had mentioned that on review before, and after seeing it .. I believe it! Just south of Port Vila, its an easy bus ride in.. it has great walking routes for exploration and several great beaches nearby. (Honeymoon and Breakas Beach to name a few) We looked around before and while there also, and absolutely couldn't find a better all around location / deal than Pandanus. Enjoy!

Our second stay here, the location is superb and the sunsets sublime, different and mesmerizing every day. James and Claudine will make your stay here a pleasure with total privacy but will assist in every way possible to attend to any need you may have. James even pulled out his tools on a Saturday morning and straightened our hire car bullbar to save us paying damage waiver to the hirer after a slight miscalculation doing a u-turn in the pouring rain and ending up in a ditch!

The apartment is truly five star and feels like home with every modcon you might need. Our kids said they'd like to live here. Me too! Beach and pool access is steps away and the snorkeling is superb right in front of the apartment. Turtles and dugongs frequent the lagoon and there is so many varieties of fish here so waterproof cameras are a must.

It's far enough from town to ensure peace and quiet but only 5 minutes by car if you need supplies. We love it here and will be back next time we're in Port Vila.

While this was not our first choice of accommodation, this is where we will return to.

We moved here from a less than desirable hotel, and couldn't be happier. I didn't want to leave. The rooms were very clean, good quality fittings and fixtures, and the service was great.

The first night we were there we did a load of washing and hung it out on the supplied clothes airer. We returned from a day of exploring the next day to find the cleaners had picked in our washing and folded it all up and put it in the ample wardrobes. Above and beyond service.

The pool was fantastic, if not in need of a good clean after a week of rain, but the snorkeling was superb.

James and Claudine did everything in their power to make our holiday one to remember, and if not for them, we would have left Vanuatu early and missed out on everything.

Thank you again for everything, and we will be back with the kids another time soon!!

Room Tip: room 3 is fenced to keep out the local dogs and also if you are travelling with little kids. Direct access to the beach, and everything is there for you to use. Nothing is off limits!

We recently stayed at Pandanus Bay Waterfront Apartments for 6 nights in late March. We were thoroughly impressed with the accommodation and so glad that we had made the choice to stay there.

James and Claudine run a great operation. They are very easy to deal with and do everything they can to make the stay more enjoyable. They were also very accommodating after Air Vanuatu cancelled our flight and rescheduled to the following day.

The apartments are great - very big and modern and perfect for a family. We stayed in apartment 3 and I would recommend this to any family with young children as it had more than enough space outside and a fence around the yard. Perfect for our daughter to go exploring, but not go too far! The amenities were great - huge fridge, stove, really good crockery and cooking appliances. We loved the open plan space.

The pool area was a lot nicer than I expected. As others have said, the photos on the website don't do this place justice. The beach was great too. It is a little rocky, but not a problem with reef shoes. At high tide the water comes right up to the banana lounge and bbq area, and at low tide there is a little sandy beach to play on. The owners have put sand all around the lounge and bbq area anyway, so our daughter was quite happy to play in that!

We arranged a babysitter on a few occasions, which was very reasonably priced. I would recommend others to do this too, and to even have a babysitter for a whole day if you want to go and explore without the children. The babysitter was great, you could just tell she loved kids. Even the next day when we saw her on the street, she came up to give our daughter cuddles and smiles.

We found the apartments to be nice and quiet. I liked the fact that they are located out of town a little, but it isn't that far at all really. We had a hire car and would go into town at least once a day to buy groceries or go shopping. It was no more than a 10 minute drive to Number 2 supermarket. I think one of the highlights for us was the local children from next door. They saw our daughter (who is 18 months old) playing on the first day and asked if they could play with her. They would then play on the beach with her every day after school, reading books and playing games, and were so good with her. I think it was the highlight of our daughter's trip too!

We would not hesitate to recommend Pandanus Bay to others, and our stay at Pandanus Bay has made us want to plan a return trip to Vanuatu.

Thanks James and Claudine - we loved it.

Kind Regards
Kate, Joe and Stella

Room Tip: We loved room 3 which was ground floor. The upstairs rooms would have a nice view from the balcony, but i prefer to be on the ground level and have a grassed area outside.
