We recently stayed at Pandanus Bay Waterfront Apartments for 6 nights in late March. We were thoroughly impressed with the accommodation and so glad that we had made the choice to stay there.

James and Claudine run a great operation. They are very easy to deal with and do everything they can to make the stay more enjoyable. They were also very accommodating after Air Vanuatu cancelled our flight and rescheduled to the following day.

The apartments are great - very big and modern and perfect for a family. We stayed in apartment 3 and I would recommend this to any family with young children as it had more than enough space outside and a fence around the yard. Perfect for our daughter to go exploring, but not go too far! The amenities were great - huge fridge, stove, really good crockery and cooking appliances. We loved the open plan space.

The pool area was a lot nicer than I expected. As others have said, the photos on the website don't do this place justice. The beach was great too. It is a little rocky, but not a problem with reef shoes. At high tide the water comes right up to the banana lounge and bbq area, and at low tide there is a little sandy beach to play on. The owners have put sand all around the lounge and bbq area anyway, so our daughter was quite happy to play in that!

We arranged a babysitter on a few occasions, which was very reasonably priced. I would recommend others to do this too, and to even have a babysitter for a whole day if you want to go and explore without the children. The babysitter was great, you could just tell she loved kids. Even the next day when we saw her on the street, she came up to give our daughter cuddles and smiles.

We found the apartments to be nice and quiet. I liked the fact that they are located out of town a little, but it isn't that far at all really. We had a hire car and would go into town at least once a day to buy groceries or go shopping. It was no more than a 10 minute drive to Number 2 supermarket. I think one of the highlights for us was the local children from next door. They saw our daughter (who is 18 months old) playing on the first day and asked if they could play with her. They would then play on the beach with her every day after school, reading books and playing games, and were so good with her. I think it was the highlight of our daughter's trip too!

We would not hesitate to recommend Pandanus Bay to others, and our stay at Pandanus Bay has made us want to plan a return trip to Vanuatu.

Thanks James and Claudine - we loved it.

Kind Regards
Kate, Joe and Stella

Room Tip: We loved room 3 which was ground floor. The upstairs rooms would have a nice view from the balcony, but i prefer to be on the ground level and have a grassed area outside.

We ( 5 adults 1 child) stayed in number 4 and 9 nights was not enough. The website photos don't actually really reflect what a great location the apartments at in We felt lucky to enjoy the location on NEW YEAR. All the apartments are modern, spacious, clean and all rooms have air con and fans. We hired a car from Europcar and toured around Efate to lots of different spots. The Manager James was great for getting some info on nice places to eat out and Willy from Pango village was always available to provide not only security, but also to answer questions about local custom and culture. We loved staying here on our 4th trip to the island. Highlights: the water is twenty feet from your back door and has easy access to good snorkeling especially at high tide also has a lovely BBQ and spot to sit and while away the day right on the water. Gardens and pool area well maintained. Lovely local ladies clean your room every day but Sunday. Low lights none really the road is pretty rough for about 2 kms before you get to the apartments but this also means you are in a quiet spot without many other people about which we loved.

We stayed at Pandanus Bay apartments for the first part of our honeymoon earlier in November. We were blown away with how beautiful the apartments and location is, yes 10 minutes out of town but we loved that!
We walked along the dirt road chatting to the local villagers and caught buses from Breakers Beach resort into town for $1.50AUS whenever we wanted to go out for meals/site seeing.
The apartments are modern with comfortable furniture and free wi-fi! Each day the apartment was cleaned and filled with fresh flowers. We utilised the shopping service to pre-stock the fridge/pantry when we arrived and were very pleased with the quality of food - my husband has been telling everyone about the steaks - two scotch fillets for $2.50 Australian - they were amazing!
We loved every minute of our time there, Lucy was filling in for James and Claudine and she was very helpful and friendly arranging massages, drivers and suggesting local places to visit. We definitely want to come back to beautiful Pandanus and Vanuatu – hopefully very soon!

We stayed here after 6 nights in a resort hotel room, and found it huge! The unit was modern, spacious and a pleasure to stay at. Kids had their own rooms, and the internet access was well used. The huge spa bath seemed a bit out of place in the master bedroom, however, on a cooler cloudy day this kept the kids entertained between swims in the pool.
It is a bit out of town, but then I guess a lot of accommodation in Vila is a taxi or bus ride from town, and the price for this seems to be the same (500 vatu) no matter where you are coming from, so don;t let this put you off.
The house maids returned the place to immaculate condition each morning for us, which was ok when we were out, but if we stayed in, it seemed to take them ages. Also, the master bedroom would benefit from some net curtains, as it seemed dark with the other curtains drawn, however, we felt there was always a gardner or maid about to walk past the windows at any time, so getting changed or even using the toilet which was in the master bedroom meant we were constantly shutting the curtains.
a Well equiped kitchen meant we could self cater - important with kids, as we didn't find one meal in a restaurant that cost us less than $100 for a family of 4.
Pandanus offers luxury, peace and spaciousness, away from the heat and hustle of Port Vila. It is different to staying in a resort though, where you can go to the pool, the bar, the restaurant, activity space, and peoplewatch or order a snack or drink, it is quiet and private.

We have been to Vanuatu 6 times, twice in 2 years and Pandanus has been the best accommodation we have been lucky enough to stay in so far. Our kids are 4 and 8 and the pool was well used during our 2 week stay. The apartments are very spacious, modern and well maintained. The photos on the website do not do justice to the beautiful rooms and surroundings. James and Claudine are the perfect hosts, from the time we made our first enquiry to even when we returned home and found our son had left his birthday present behind! They went out of their way to purchase another one and send it to us. Couldn't have asked for more.
Pango is a little way out of Vila but this is what we prefer and hired a car for the duration of the stay. The roads are not great but this is normal whenever you leave the main roads on Efate. We enjoy driving around the island finding beautiful beaches and great spots for lunch. James & Claudine were so helpful in giving advice for lovely places to visit. One is the Wahoo Bar on Havannah Harbour. Great food and enjoyed a snorkel after lunch just outside the restaurant. Other great lunch and play spots are Tamanu on the Beach (the kids can play on the beach outside, within view) Aquana Beach Resort (great food and warm hospitality) and The Summit in Mele is nice to visit for fantastic views and lovely lunch. Or take a picnic and visit a beach at Eton or nearby. The esky in our room was a great idea and well used.
It was good to return to our apartment which was kept spotlessly clean by the wonderful ladies each day. As the days were so busy, our kids would be so tired, it was good to relax and cook a quick meal at home each night, either inside or on the BBQ outside. There are lots of places to shop and buy good food to cook. It was lovely to hear the water lapping on the beach each night as we fell asleep. The view from the apartments is gorgeous over the well maintained gardens to the sea only steps away. Staying close to the villages and hearing kids playing or seeing locals go about their daily tasks makes you feel a little more a part of this beautiful country and can only enhance the experience. I can only hope we can return again. Soon....

Room Tip: Downstairs room have direct access to beach, pool. One has a low fenced courtyard suitable for toddlers.
