We ate here the other night as a group the food was beautiful. We had pizza, fillet minion and fish in tomato and capsicum sauce.

Prices were reasonable pizzas starting from 800-950vt each ranging upwards. Other mains including seafood started around $1200 vt. Very good considering most places in Port Vila charge a lot more. It’s a very good mid price range restaurant.

Service was friendly, polite and helpful. Overall we would eat here again.

Finally found a venue which had Coconut Crab available on the menu. Difficult to get in Port Vila now.

Good choice of cocktails and beer, had a nice French Burgundy with dinner.

Garlic snails were delicious, the crab did not disappoint either. Wide variety on the menu, so something for everyone.

Decor was unusual but interesting and the service was good.

Drinks, entree and mains worked out at just over $70 AUD pp for group of four.

Will be back again when next in Port Vila

After reading so many good reviews on TA we were looking forward to eating at this restaurant. Especially since it had been there for 45 years. We ordered the French Onion soup to start and it tasted ok - it didn't have a strong flavour and I could make it better myself and I am no great cook at all. As we are slightly picky we ordered the Margherita pizza. It tasted ok, not great so we didn't eat the whole pizza. Hubby ordered the profiteroles and he said they were great and the highlight of the evening.

It was a busy night and the service was fast. We didn't like how the owner (assume it was him) spoke to the waitresses. He was also speaking to a table close to us for a bit. He came back and read out an article or story of some sort which was full of swear words. He read this out at the top of his voice with families with children nearby. We found this behaviour highly offensive and not necessary. I would have given this restaurant a three star rating if it wasn't for this incident. There are other restaurants in PV which are better. Would not recommend this restaurant and it was our worst meal in PV.

L’Houstalet continues to be amazing & is the last of the real French Restaurants in Vila. How lucky have my wife & I & when we were younger, our kids , to have experienced this institution for forty odd years. This is where ALL the other restaurants owners in Vila eat. In terms of value L’Houstalet is unbeatable. There must be great effort required to maintain your high standards. This is why L’Houstalet is so busy when others are empty. We look forward to our final dinner this stay, tomorrow. Thanks Clement

This place looks like it's been stuck in the 70's! After all it has been operating for over 40 years and I would say not a thing has been changed, everything there is very pre-loved and this makes for a great atmosphere. The food is fabulous, we ate there 3 of the 9 nights we were in Port Vila. There was plenty of variety, pricing reasonable, servings were a good size and they just keep bringing that amazing fresh bread YUM! Also the house wine is quite drinkable and served in the cutest tiny personal caraffes, cocktails were also good and reasonably priced, the shaker left on the table for topups.
HIghly recommended, you won't be disappointed!
