Location

Hotel is located in Supe Kachi area of city, about half way down from El Alto. From airport it takes around 30 minutes & hotel provide taxi at 13USD. The area around hotel is one of the older area’s of the city with cobbled streets. Opposite hotel is a small park & next door is a supermarket for food, pharmacy & an ATM. A block away 3 min walk is the Telefonica cable car of which is the highlight of this city since you can go higher or lower with it. The area in general is safe & quiet, in a middle class residential part of city.

Room

The one bed apartment of 101 was of decent size. Offering an open plan kitchen with a large dining table, sofa & arm chair. The kitchen consists of a kettle, microwave, an electric oven & stove with a full set of kitchenware & utensils. There is a large fridge with some mini bar item but mostly snacks. For those needing to charge devices, there is plenty of two pin power plug sockets. Amenities include the famous coca tea sachet & bottle of water. Coca tea is defiantly worth trying since the altitude feeling is full-on.
The bathroom was of good size and includes a combined bath & shower. It has a jacuzzi function and is very relaxing but it does take a long tine for the bath to fill, since hot water comes out slowly. Bring your own shower products since they only provide a plain soap and a simple shampoo sachet. Towels though are nice and thick.
The bedroom is down some steps & is a standard double bed with mattress topper. It’s fairly comfortable with bedside tables each side but did feel quite old including blanket. Facing bed is a TV of which consisted of music channels & sports. I didn’t see any non Spanish language channels.
Overall the apartment is fairly dated looking but it was clean & comfortable for the price paid.

Facilities

The hotel only offers a breakfast buffet but it is fairly terrible. Just some scrambled egg, some breads & cereals with not nice looking meats & no butter for the hard bread rolls. They do have some cakes but wouldn’t decide on this hotel based on the free breakfast, but given the remoteness of the city and altitude, the food in general is not a strong point of La Paz.
There used to be a sauna & jacuzzi but when entering this room it is all covered up not in use.
WIFI however is free, secure & of acceptable speed.

Staff

Staff mostly speak basic English & all were quite helpful & friendly. Check-in & out did take a longer than it should, especially the check-in of which I pre-paid but it took longer than it should and had to fill out a full form. The fact that i was very wobbly and dizzy from the shock to body from flying into La Paz from Europe, it was a painful check-in experience of which I nearly wigged out on the floor.

Overall the hotel is good for location and for those that want to have self catering. Good value for money is its strong point and location is safe.

I stayed at the beautiful Stannum Boutique Hotel for one night and then here for one. I must say that both were amazing, but the Alcala Apart Hotel, although not as modern, was considerably cheaper (about 60% of what I paid at the Stannum). This alone gives Alcala "bragging rights".

The suites are old-fashioned, very spacious, comfortable, offer an ok view, a great bathroom, and a rather big kitchen.

The staff were extremely friendly. The location is great- safe district, but quick access to city sights.

Only negative: sauna was being repaired or built, which would have added greatly to the experience.

This is a really nice choice for a place to stay in La Paz . The staff was helpful with the luggage , money exchange and restaurant suggestions . The room and hotel was really clean . The breakfast had a good selection including eggs . There is a nice park across the street and restaurants all around it . The Yellow and green Over head cable cars are 1 1/2 block away . This area is clean and safe .

Dear Tbirdman:

We are very happy to know that you enjoyed our services, our staff is always aware of every detail guests need, it is our duty to make you have a "pleasant stay". It is a real pleasure for us to know also that the breakfast was to your liking and that you enjoyed our great variety of foods. On the other hand the location surely liked you as we have the square in front for children, supermarket, pharmacy, restaurants and cable car which is a great tourist attraction of the city of La Paz. We hope you come back soon to visit us. Alcalá Apart Hotel will always be waiting for you.

Stayed 5 nights in this lovely sunny and light, spacious apartment with great views. Located just under the Yellow gondola and 10 min walk into main downtown, was perfect. Quiet nice area close to restaurants with the Plaza Espagna directly opposite. Ivan in reception spoke good English, much better than our Spanish. Highly recommend the Alcala.

Room tip: A room higher up will give you great views

Booked a 3-night stay with a friend. We had a one-bedroom apartment. The apartment suite was massive, lots of space, and very clean. The bathroom could use a bit of updating (particularly with the dim lighting). There's hot showers, though you may have to let the water run for a few minutes before the hot water kicks in.

Location wise, it's not super close to the touristy centre, but still walkable.
Breakfast was excellent -- lots of choices, both hot & cold options. The staff were extremely helpful as well. Strong wifi.
