“Great ceviche, what a surprise so far from South America”
Review of Toro Toro

Toro Toro
Ranked #111 of 995 Restaurants in Doha
Price range: US$14 - US$55
Description: Toro Toro is a creative blend of Pan Latin styles and flavours, one of the most successful and growing concepts of the Celebrity Chef Richard Sandoval. Established in 2011 in Dubai, Toro Toro showcases the most authentic recipes from Brazil to Peru in a vibrant atmosphere, giving to its eclectic and selected guests a full Latin experience. From the minutely prepared small dishes to share which combine flavours from the most unknown parts of Latin America, the acclaimed "Rodizio Experience", to the enormous selection of Latin spirits and refreshing cocktails, Toro Toro has been a great success. In less than four years the brand expanded from the UAE to America, Serbia, China, Qatar, and Japan together with its by-concept "Toro Latin Gastro Bar" and in each of those destinations it plays an important role in the gastronomic scene. Toro Toro Doha is the second chance for the Middle East to be introduced to the Latin rich cuisine which is still a big mystery in this part of the world, and there's no better location for this to happen than the heart of The Pearl-Qatar and Marsa Malaz Kempinski. Toro Toro is located at the gardens of the island of Marsa Malaz Kempinski.

After the advice of a Spain friend who loves fish I tried Toro, wow what a great surprise. I tried all four ceviches, so seabass, tuna, salmon and shrimp and main course grilled seabass special style. Especially the ceviches, my favorites are as per great advise from Waiter. The atmosphere of the place is great, also service is very good !! See you a next time... For sure!

I went with friends on a Monday night for dinner. My friend was visiting from Dubai and she and her sister had been to Toro Toro in Doha for the buffet which they really enjoyed. We were presented with a fairly confusing menu of small, cold and hot plates, and meat plates and told that the focus was sharing. Each plate ranged in price from about 60 QR to 130 QR and the meat offerings were in the 400+ QR range and came with nothing else. We were given a complimentary bowl containing three cheese bread balls, each the size of a meat ball. They tasted good and made an nice amuse bouche. However the other small plates were in fact quite small and quite expensive. For example we ordered another cheese bread bowl and it was only 4 cheese bread balls. We decided to supplement the meal with one of the 400 QR meat dishes and this brought some more food. However the signature meat dish of the restaurant, included in the meat offering, was not available which was also disappointing. While the meat tasted good some of the pieces were gristle. We had nachos which we thought would be filling but the bowl containing the Nacho chips was about 4 inches across and contained less than what a single person might consume, let alone three people. The dip bowl was the same size and we were luckily able to get a second tiny bowl of nacho chips. At the point of 945 QR we had had one drink each, a meat plate and a number of small plates and it was not enough. I told the manager that we all had good jobs and we didn't mind paying for a good product but we felt that we were really not receiving any value for the money. I thought it was unreasonable since we had already paid $331 CDN as a group or about $110 per person and much of the meal was like snacks. The manager said he just wanted us to be happy and what did we want? We didn't really specify but he gave us a steak cut in three, a salad and gave me another glass of wine.

While the gesture was nice no one really wants to feel they have paid a lot and are then begging for food. The quality of the food and the taste was good but frankly not as good as Ipanema. In addition the decor was without character. The waiter was quite good and we left him a good tip.

I recalled my other experience at this Kempinski which was the Marine Ball about 5 months ago. This had been a very nice event with the exception of the food which was in such tiny portions it also did not feel like a meal, especially for a night of drinking and dancing. The dinner was a small salad followed by a plate of asparagus spears - very few, I think some round potatoes and turkey or chicken medallions that were also small and few. The chicken medallions, which were actually rolled and sliced, had a processed meat flavour. There was a dessert to follow. Many people expressed disappointment in that meal too. Overall, I feel from my experiences so far, this hotel has too start giving people value.

I 've been several times at the Bar of Toro Toro.

Great place with a friendly atmoshpere, decent guests, interesting decoration and nice music. What is disappointing every time is the service which is usually slow and makes mistakes easily.

Recently we had a great time at this bar despite the low performance of the service. I hope to be improved.

Have been to the Toro Toro in Dubai for brunch and loved it. Went here for drinks one evening in the bar upstairs. A very nice, stylish place. The restaurant also looks good. Haven't tried the food here yet but will do soon!
