Conveniently located right across the street from the Roman ruins, Hadrian's Gate Hotel offers a very friendly service, but it will not win any beauty points.

At JD 50 a night this was one of the more expensive hotels we visited, and definitely not the best value for money one. It is family-run and your hosts will make you feel very welcome, but not enough to justify the price of the (large) rooms.

The hotel offers wifi, but not the fast type. Breakfast is included, but it is not much.

What really wins for this Hotel is the hospitality. Ismael, the owner, was both kind and helpful and ready to assist the weary tourist in any way. Lift to the ATM (only 100m),welcome coffee, restaurant tips and directions, sightseeing tips etc. The hotel is spotlessly clean and tidy. Breakfast was a simple but pleasant selection of fresh vegetable, dips, bread, jam and eggs. We had the top room which was big, with a good view and access to the roof terrace with even better views over the town and overlooking the Hadrian Arch. There was an en-suite and utility room adjacent. I guess it was a little expensive but Ismael also has a double room at a lower price. Remember to turn the Hot water on as soon as and try the Lebanese restaurant down the road, good food and experience, Um Khalil.

Room tip: Wi-fi in Reception,Try the roof terrace, turn the hot water on soon as, try the Lebanese restaurant, enjoy the ruins from early morning

There is a hotel with a similar name in Turkey which we nearly booked by accident! This is not bookable over the internet so best give them a call. The proprietors are very welcoming and offers of tea and coffee abound. They also extend the use of the WC facilities; tea and coffee and luggage storage after check-out should you want to stop off there after visiting the ruins and before after visiting the ruins. The décor is a little dated (albeit some furniture proudly displays it’s Ikea stickers) but perfectly clean and comfortable with everything in working order. We stayed in the rooftop en-suite double room which itself had great views. Whilst the other rooms have shared bathrooms, It looked like there are two bathrooms for three rooms so not particularly overcrowded.

Hadrian's Gate Hotel is directly across the road from Hadrian's Gate, the memorial gate built in Gerasa (Jerash) in about 129 AD to celebrate the Emperor's visit. It is a simple, comfortable and extremely friendly and accommodating place to stay. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for Ismael and Walid; they are always there to help.

Room tip: If you want a room with a view take the penthouse with the private deck overlooking the Gate.
