Yad Vashem offers an excellent insight into the Jewish history and culture and how it suffered during the first and the second World War. The content is deep and very sad, but the museum and its surroundings are very well done and leaves the visitor with a memory that will last long. This museum should be obligatory for anyone visiting Israel, or actually anyone at all with interest in history and culture of the last centuries. It is a truly remarkable museum and collection of buildings and memorials in beautiful landscape.

It's a little difficult to explain the experience, but be prepared to be shocked and maybe a little embarased of the fact part of the human race could have done such things.
this place is not for a fun day, but it is a MUST, don't skip it!!!

I went with my son and made the mistake of only allowing a couple of hours. If you were at the old Yad Vashem - forget it. This isn't a museum, it's a life changing experience. You could go with a guide (ask for Shahar), but you can do it by yourself too.

Bring food and drink because it takes all day,

The main exhibit is very moving, especially the room housing the testimonials of survivors of the concentration camps. If you have time, check out the nearby art galleries for some very moving portraits of prisoners drawn by fellow prisoners.
