“Lovely people, convenient location, pleasant room”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 January 2012

I booked this hotel for a colleague, three graduate students, and me. Our rooms were quiet, pleasantly furnished, spectacularly clean, and had reliable wi-fi access. Yusef, Eko, Omar and Muharrem were always friendly and helpful with advice on any subject. They offered maps, transportation methods and routes. They knew excellent places to eat and where to buy the best Turkish Delight. Breakfast was a delicious buffet that included Western and Turkish breakfast staples and omelets made to order. Evening chats with the hotel staff after long work days or days of exploring Istanbul's many attractions were pleasant and illuminating. All of us will happily return to the Basileus on our next visit to Istanbul.

Basileus Hotel Istanbul
Dec 4-7 & 24-26, 2011
Stayed twice at the Basileus - upon my arrival and before my departure 3 weeks later Dec 24-26th. One of the friendliest hotels throughout my travels across Turkey, where the staff genuinely go out of their way to ensure guest enjoy not only Istanbul, but also their country. As a single traveller, my priorities are always safety, location, cleanliness and good food! - Basileus excelled in all. Friendliness and helpfulness of staff is a bonus. The hotel shined on all points! I don’t think I’d have had as much fun exploring the outer city locations, using local transport, without Eko’s kind assistance. Since I got lost more times! Returning later than expected one evening, the owner tried to reach me to make sure I was okay. Not too many hotels boast such care.

The hotel is still in the midst of finishing and retouching various rooms, reception and breakfast areas, all of which are completely usable, and once completed, further add to the overall appearance and quality of guests experience. The rooms are of varying sizes, some not quite so stark, again a work in progress. Each room I stayed in was functional and very clean. The location is within easy walking distance to all relevant tourist attractions, streetcars and markets. Breakfast is good. Lots of dried fruits, cheeses, olives, bread, omelettes and fresh coffee each morning, plus Turkish coffee. The hotel is easily accessed from the airport by taxi or local metro/streetcar routes. But as with smaller hotels, I would ask the hotel to forward either a detailed map or written instructions, in the native language, to hand the cab driver, if in doubt. I travelled by local transportation everywhere, never had a problem having a native speaker write the instructions. Okay, I got lost a few times! But that’s the fun of exploring – right. Some reviewers mentioned problem finding the Basileus Hotel, in which case, I’d simply email the hotel before arrival for specific details if you haven’t arranged for the hotel’s airport pick-up service. Just like to add a ‘special thank you’ again, to Eko, the owners, and staff at Basileus Hotel for all their kindness throughout my stay - Miss our chats & Apple tea guys, or was that apple tea and chats! :)

Room Tip: As the neighbourhood is busy, the back rooms tend to be a little quieter. Depends how heavy a sleepe...

We stayed for one night on our return to the city. This was a great hotel with the best breakfast we had in Turkey. We paid 50 E for a twin room through www.booking.com which was clean and had a good bathroom. The staff was excellent with very good English and they offered good advice. We definitely recommend this hotel and suggest you try contacting the hotel directly.

We stayed in Basileus last week and we couldn't be happier. It's a quite new looking hotel with very good features. Definitely recommended.

We stayed in this hotel from 31 December to 4 January. We were very glad tha we had chosen it. Is is very close to all interesting places to see, not far from tram stop.
The best word to describe this hotel is "cosiness". The atmosphere is more domestic unlike many big hotels.
The staff of the hotel is very friendly, always ready to help.
Rooms turned out to be very spacios with different conveniencies. For example, we were surprised, when found tea/coffe-making facilities in the room. The rooms is cleaned well every day, just don't forget to give the key to the housekeeping when you leave.
Although breakfast was not very diverse, it was delicious. We like jams a lot.
We also want to thank Ekrem and Yusuf. The always helped us and gave us a lot of advice about local sightseeing.
