We stayed in a deluxe room at Pillar Hotel for three nights. The staff were friendly, the rooms were large (with free wifi, tv, refrigerator, kettle, coffee/tea, etc). The location was fairly central (on the waterfront) and near many shops and restaurants. A big plus of staying at the Pillar is their great (free) breakfast menu. The breakfast menu offers a huge variety of choices (omelets, pancakes, bacon/eggs, fruit plate, etc, etc) as well as many different coffee choices (cappuccino, latte, americano). As mentioned in a few other reviews, the stairs are a bit narrow/steep/dark (no elevator), and a few bits and pieces around the hotel can use additional repair/upgrade.
When booking a bus trip or boat tour, if the reception tells you that there are no tickets left for the time/day that you want ... it really is worthwhile checking at one of the other (numerous) tour/ticket shops down the rode before settling for a time/date that is not ideal for you.

Room Tip: Remember to stay on a low floor.... or be prepared for the climb! (Add stars for the breakfast menu...

We stayed for 1 night in this hotel last Jan 4, 2014. The hotel is in a nice location, very accessible and looks okay from the outside. However, there are several areas for improvement the hotel needs to address:

1. The staircase is too steep, dark and can fit only one person at a time. If you have a big luggage with you, it will be a challenge for you to bring it in your room. We asked them for assistance in carrying our luggages to our rooms.
2. There is a problem with the lock for the sliding glass doors (towards the terrace) in our room (room 103 if i can remember it correctly). Their personnel was able to lock it but it can be easily opened. This is a major security issue because a thief could easily enter into the terrace (we're just on the 2nd floor) and break in through the sliding glass door.
3. The bathroom is dirty, and unbearable. There seems to be a problem with the drainage because it can get flooded easily when you're using the shower. Also, the shampoo and conditioner provided by the hotel in the bathroom seems to have been used already.

It's good that we only stayed for 1 night in this hotel, thus, not ruining our Indochina trip.

Room Tip: Get a room on the 2nd floor, to minimize walk on the very steep and dark staircase. Also, check you...

Lovely view from our room. The room is Clean and friendly receptionist, Lucy. The wifi is very fast. 3min walk to bus station (going to Siem Reap). Not recommended to the elderly. My room was on the third floor, it was quite an challenge to climb the stairs.

Room Tip: For the elderly ask for lower floor.

This could be a very good or even excellent with just a few minor changes.
Firstly, the rooms are very nice and some have terrific views. The down side of this however, is the white curtains with no lining, making the room bright as the beach as soon as the sun rises.
Another problem that could easily be remedied is the bathroom: it is quite nice and large enough but the is no access to soap or shower products as you are showering; no soap dish or anywhere to put it after use. You have to go back to the sink area to get soap and put it back in the sink area when finished.
Overall, I really liked the rooms, I just wish they were darker in the mornings.
The stairs are also a bit of an adventure. They are quite steep and winding and not all the same height.
i found the staff very friendly and accommodating when you needed them.
The owner of this place needs to step up and make a few changes and this really could be a great place to stay.
