“Great atmosphere, great food & wonderful staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 March 2012

Our first time in Cambodia and we couldn't have received a better welcome to the country than by the team at the Mad Monkey. The energetic & enthusiastic staff made us feel special & at home immediately and nothing was too much trouble. The owners & staff were very knowledgeable & helped us plan our trip to get the most out of our time in Cambodia. Our ensuite room was spacious, very clean and the complimentary bottles of water a nice touch. The location is perfect and only a 15 min walk to the water front/palace etc. We ate in the restaurant every day & the choice & quality of food excellent, same goes for the cocktails! Would definitely recommend this place and will certainly return!

I'm not a pompus traveler or a fancy bloke who expects high quality from guesthouses, I just like clean rooms, thats it! Oh, and in this case one with windows. Dont go rushing out to this guesthouse, for the price you can find cleaner places. We stayed in room number 4 which has a bad smell, damp feel and no windows, oh wait! there was one window that looked into the internal corridor. It is also a very loud guesthouse if you have a big day a hit the sack early you will hear the crashing and babging from the kitchen. We called it the dungeon and spent the least amount of time there as possible. They do have a restaraunt in the lobby, but if you are in a rush - dont eat here as it takes a very long time for food to come out. Not much else to say about this place other than, keep looking for somewhere else.

We pre-booked our rooms from their website. Got a room with 3 huge double-decker beds (1 bed and fit 2!) attached bathroom and fully aircon. The room was located next to their closed bar (luckily it was closed or else we'll be having a hard time to sleep and hangover every day)
Transportation in and out is easy, tuktuks with the Mad Monkey logo is always available outside. You pay directly to the driver and not at the reception. Like all hostel, bring your own toiletries and towel (though you can also rent 1 from the reception). The cafe at ground floor offers variety foods and drinks (thumbs up to the cocktails). Location-wise, you can walk out to other nearby cafes and bars easily as there is not much traffic.

Room Tip: It can be tiring to carry your luggage up to your room, so travel light

We were pleasantly surprised! We only paid 9$ per person per night and did not expect much. The staff were amazing - we booked cheap bus tickets with them and they were always super friendly and helpful. The coffee and food at the Mad Monkey were delicious (although more pricey than some of the other restaurants in town). Rooms are very basic - but you get working aircon and clean bedding and towels. It is a bit away from the vibey part of town, but a tuk-tuk for 2$ (4 people) gets you there in 5 minutes. Overall a very nice place to stay if you are in town for 2-3 days.
