Owner description: The Flicks Community Movie Theater is the legendary and most unique location in Phnom Penh where you can enjoy the latest films, festival winners, documentaries and kids flicks on a big wide screen, in an "uber-comfy" air conditioned movie room, from before there were big cineplexes. The Flicks is the little movie theater from the time when there was no other big screen in town, located in an original wooden Cambodian house and features an all air conditioned bar and a leafy outside terrace. Its movie room seats 32 people. Enjoy your movies for only $3.50 per day, with a drink, snacks and homemade fresh popcorn available at the bars! Welcome home!

As an cinema-visitor I stumbled upon The Flicks 3 on #258. The Flicks Community Movie House has three different locations/cinemas known as The Flicks 1,2 and 3 that are scattered over central Phnom Penh. The FCMH shows a wide variety of movies ranging from new (Boyhood), time-relevant (Good morning Vietnam) to ever-relevant (The killing fields, a documentary). If you decide to buy a ticket ($3.5) you can see all the movies on all locations using that same ticket and that's a pretty sweet deal.

The first thing that I thought about when I stretched out on a seat for four was how cosy all of this was. If I ever would earn enough money to build myself a cinema (just you wait!) it would look something like this. As the movie of choice started, Good morning Vietnam, the big bowl of popcorn ($2.5) I ordered was also delivered to my seat/couch and I thought that THIS is what my Phnom Penh is about; watching old Robin Williams-movies played from Windows Media Player in a cosy surrounding, getting popcorn delivered in your lap while half the town is getting flooded by the crazy downpour outside - beautiful!

With air-condition and pillows you could rearrange however you wanted to, this place made me feel almost too comfortable as I nearly fell asleep, partly put in a coma from the huge amount of popcorn I pushed in my mouth. As always, bring a sweater or something warmer as it can get pretty chilly.

All and all it was a darn good movie-experience and I will definitely come back

I went to Flicks 2 (be careful because there are three which all show different movies at different times) and it was nice for a movie theater but was just that. I watched The Killing Fields to try to get more historic background before visiting them in Phnom Penh but the movie itself was really long and not all that helpful. If you're in the mood for a quiet activity in air conditioning this isn't a bad one to pick.

On a Saturday or Sunday you can literally spend the whole day here, watch 4 or 5 movies and it will only cost you $3.50! The cinema room is really really comfy and cozy and they also have all your favourite cinema snacks. Many of the staff are volunteers from around the world, and everyone was very friendly. I liked that many of the movies were ones I wouldn't have seen otherwise, and you should definitely make a point of catching The Killing Fields while you are in Phnom Penh. Take a jumper, snuggle up in the delicious aircon and escape the stresses of Asia for a while!

As many other people, used this as an opportunity to see The Killing Fields again. (A film that has not dated - worth seeing a second time). Get there in time to get the mattresses at the front.

A different experience all together which is difficult to find anywhere else. You may have big cinema hall but this is a small community theatre playing some exceptional movies specially some perfect fits for the backpackers. I watched Beach, On my way and The Killing Fields as I got free from the city tour around 4 pm so just landed up here. Food is also good and staff very friendly. The lower two seats are obviously the best ones as you can just lie down and watch movies full day. Good place to meet fellow travellers !
