What a fabulous place!!!! Kitty and Hal at the front desk could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Nothing was too hard for them. The beds were so comfy, the rooms were clean and the location brilliant. Breakfast was not very nice but that was a minor thing compared to everything else good. Was our second time here. Will definitely stay here again.

This is a really good place to stay in Saigon. It is located down a small alley just off Bui Vien which is a very lively street with lots of bars, restaurants and travel agents. There are lots of bars around but it is far enough off the street to avoid most of the noise.

The room was nice with air conditioning and bathroom with a decent shower. There was cable tv with various English channels(HBO, Star sports, Star movies, CNN, ESPN). There was a fridge and tea/coffee making facitilies.

Breakfast was basic but nice. You can get eggs, sausages, toast and bananas. It didn't vary for the four days that we were there. You can have your choice of juice, tea or coffee.

The staff were very friendly and helpful with any request. They give you a brochure of tours for sale but never try to push them on you at all.

They did laundry for us for $1 a kilo which was perfect. There is WiFi which cuts out sometimes but worked more often than not. The PCs in the lobby always worked but the speed of the internet wasn't amazing. You can pay by credit card but there is a 4% charge if you do.

Luan Vu is brilliant. From the outside it looks a bit rough but the inside is nice and surprisingly quiet. The staff helped us to make the most of our time in Ho Chi Minh City and even helped us with our onward travel down to the Mekong Delta.

You couldn't be more centrally located on Bui Vien, right in the heart of backpacker land and a great base to explore the city from. Our room was very comfortable, with satellite TV and internet access. Highly recommended and hope we can go back one day.

Room Tip: Book early, they get booked up quickly. Also ask in advance for a lower level room, we were on level 4 which was quite hard work with our backpacks.

From answering emails prior to booking to answering questions on HCMC Luan Vu is very prompt. They also clean rooms daily. It was actually surprising to see our room cleaned because we did not ask for it and some coins were left. Truly everything was there and there was not any single thing filched. We arrived around 9 in the evening and I had to admit to be a little bit scared of the area as it is situated along the bar scene. We were not fetched so we pulled my luggage along the area while dodging motorcycles and keeping our eyes peeled for the hotel. It is situated in an alley which is actually not a bad idea because it downs the music from the bars.

Vu Cam Thi and the other staff were very helpful and never forgot to give us warnings on keeping our things secure. Breakfast is free so at least that was another thing less to worry about as we prepare to go around. The room as a 32 inch LCD TV and a refrigerator. It also has an electric fan in case you would like to use it when the AC gets to be chilly.

The place is very near the interesting sites to go to so we just went around on foot. We also got our tours from them which was really convenient. Taxi to the airport cost us 150,000 dong via the Vinasun Taxi. The traffic was a little slow during the time that we went there and it was raining to.

The rooms and the ensuite toilet is also very spacious.

Room Tip: Get the lower floors if you have heavy luggage, we were really lucky that the 1st floor room was available as they were about to bring us to a higher floor.

You'd think that because Luan Vu is so centrally located that they could skimp on other areas, but I thought this was one of the best budget hotels I've stayed in. I was a bit skeptical about the having-to-take off-your-shoes thing, but this means that there is no clatter of feet going up and down the stairs, and means that the floor is a lot cleaner.

The rooms are functional but well laid-out and in this respect better than a lot of the more expensive hotels. For example, LCD TV, bathroom mirror with good lighting, good shower pressure, strong wifi (numerous routers on different floors so the signal was good everywhere), computers in the reception for use with free printing etc...

The room was cleaned well daily. There was no musty smell and a laundry service where they would collect at 10am and return it by 6pm (reasonably priced at $1 USD/kg). And did I mention the location? Steps away from bars, ATM across the street, easy walk to Ben Thanh market... Staff spoke good English and were very helpful. I booked all my tours through them.

Possible cons include:
- My room didn't have a window (this didn't bother me though)
- No lift (maybe ask to be on a low floor if you have heavy luggage)
- Small breakfast (bananas plus choice of toast with eggs and sausage, or bread and butter with jam)

All of these are minor though, and would not stop me from staying there again!
