I stayed here on May 2015 with my brother. The person who can speak English is the man who manage the receptionist. The girl who stand by seems so quiet and we don't bother her to asked anything. The man is the only one we rely on to asked about places around, but he seems not always there. He is so nice and helpful.

The room is fine. It is so comfort even though it is small. They have good free wifi and hot shower. The stairs is steep so you need to be careful when you bring luggage. The TV station has a lot of channel. The wall seems thin because I can hear people next to my room talking.

The hotel is located in small alley named Tam Thuong in Hang Bong Street. The place is central. Just need to walk to reach Hoan Kiem Lake, St Joseph Cathedral, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. There is mini market on Hang Bong Street so it close to this Hostel.

They locked the gate at night so it seems not suitable for people who like to hang out at night. We check out at 5 AM and need to wake up the girl to open the gate.

Room Tip: At night, they locked the gate so it is not suitable for people who like to hang out at night

Good for travellers on a very tight budget, however if you can afford to spend abit more go to the backpackers area as this hotel is located about a 20 min walk from where all the action is. Room was small and smelt like sewers but the beds were very comfy and clean. Shower was powerful too which is a bonus in Asia. They also shut the shutters and lock up at 12 midnight so not ideal if you are wanting to have a few drinks and a night out in the busy city as you will struggle to get back inside. Boyfriend was banging and ringing the bell for a good 10 minutes. After 10 minutes a lady come down, tried to unlock the shutters with her keys but failed so gave up and walked away leaving us stood outside until we carried on making a huge scene and a lot of noise again for her to let us in. Only 1 person speaks English on the front desk and we seen him once, the other 2 ladies ignore or shrug at you if you ask them a question or need anything. Also the walls are tracing paper thin. I could hear the person next door heavy breathing in his sleep all night long. I'm presuming his bed was right next to ours. Not the best nor worse place to stay.

I am a 24 year old female travelling with my partner, and by no means do we have high standards when it comes to accommodation. On a very tight budget, we booked this room for $12 per night for two nights. Our first mistake was booking two nights. When we were shown the room, it absolutely reeked of sewage, but we were too polite to say anything as the staff seemed really nice (and we reminded ourselves that we'd only paid $12). However, no matter how many incense sticks we burnt, and no matter how long we keep the windows open, the smell didn't shift. On top of that, the room was dirty and the sheets stained (although they did smell clean), and the stay was pretty rough. We ended up getting hideously drunk and forgetting about the squalor we were living in (it was New Years, after all!), since we'd already paid for the room for two nights up front. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you're seriously not bothered about even basic hygiene and getting a decent sleep!
The sad thing here is that the hotel has so much potential! The room we had was huge, with beautiful furniture and a balcony, but the housekeeping and plumbing were far below standard, even in South East Asia!

Chose this hotel because it was so cheap! Unfortunately you get what you pay for. It seems to be under some sort of construction. When we arrived no one was there except some man doing construction who told us no one was there. As we turned to leave a woman ran up and asked if we wanted to see the room. It's not uncommon for the owners to be hanging out at the shop next door, so we said okay. The rooms are nice, the beds are soft, there is a fan... However the AC doesn't work very well and is only set to whatever they made it (in my case it was 24). They also boast hot water and there is definitely not any! The phone didn't work either. Their website also indicates they have a tour desk available to help during your stay, nope. That is the area under construction and apparently no one is ever there. We went down many times to ask about a variety of things and no one was ever there. This also means that their 24hr reception is a lie. They say they have free cups of lemon juice or tea/coffee are provided for thirsty guests. Since no one is there to provide them that's untrue as well.

Long story short; If you want to get a room and then never have contact with the hotel owners again - even if you need something like the AC adjusted or help with tours/city maps, then this is an alright place to stay. If you enjoy speaking to and getting advice from your hotel staff or getting help when needed then you should stay elsewhere.

Room Tip: Get as far away from the bottom floor as possible as there is banging and lots of noise from the construction.

Down an alley specializing in french fries and mediocre smoothies is North Hotel No. 2. Decent for the price, but still substandard. The girl at the front desk was annoyed any time we asked her anything. The electricity and lighting was infrequent. The rooms are setup in perhaps the most awkward way possible, valuing wasted space rather than efficiency. Quite a walk from anything. Like I said, it worked, but ultimately, meh.

Room Tip: I think there are only 2 or 3 rooms. Not much to differentiate.
