The Hanoi Grand has a number of plusses (quiet street, fairly central location, friendly staff, computer in room etc) but it also has some shortcomings.

We had booked what was called a 'junior suite' at a highly competitive price - but, on arrival, it turned out to be a largish room (801) with a very old fashioned bathroom, where water was continuously leaking on the floor. We complained and, although they were unable to fix the water problem, the following day we were moved to another room (701) which was somewhat better. However, there were tiny insects in the room.

The plumbing and electricals were all a bit 'heath robinson' in that not everything worked all the time (eg the air conditioning sometimes would not work, shower heads were partially blocked etc).

Breakfast is reasonably good once you get used to the system and assuming not everyone arrives to eat at the same time.

Overall, if you want a fairly basic place to stay at a low price in central Hanoi it is OK. But do not expect anything 'grand' about it! And probably some places are far worse...!

Room Tip: Avoid Room 801 if possible!

this boutique hotel in Central Hanoi, is great value for money. Room was spacious, staff were friendly. Breakfast is basic but does the job. 10 minute walk from the lake, loads of stuff nearby. You wont like it if you have champagne tastes. But if you remember how much you paid and adjust your expectations to match, you will see you get more than you paid for.
My only real complainst are that there are no powerpoints in the bathroom, which made hair-styling a little difficult. We had the apartment room that came with cooking facilities, but they didn't provide and cutlery, crockery or cooking utensils. Laundry charges very reasonable and hotel is happy to help you make tour arrangements and their airport pickup service is very good value.

Room Tip: there is a good selection of roomtypes to suit different situations. We were a group of 9 and need...

Hanoi Grand Hotel is a wonderful hotel and we had a great stay. We booked the hotel one day before our arrival at Hanoi on a Saturday for $40/night. It had twin beds, big flat-screen TV with CNN, BBC and movie channels, a private computer .The bed was very comfortable and the sheets were soft and smooth. The hotel‘s location is great, 10 minutes walking distance to all the major attractions. The room is very nice and clean. Free WIFI internet was available throughout the entire hotel and I had a good connection in both the room and lobby .The staff, is beyond and above the call of duty, they make you feel very welcomed. Breakfast was excellent with the best coffee we have ever had in the Vietnam. We also booked a private tour to Ha-Long Bay with a guide through the hotel which included a tasty lunch on the boat. This was US$90 per person. I will definitely seek out the Hanoi Grand Hotel the next time I'm in Hanoi.

Room Tip: deluxe city view is good price and view.

Situated in a relatively quiet back water within walking distance of everything. All good and breakfast to die for. Staff were helpful and you could eat breakfast until 11.00. If you wish to stay in room past check out tome 12.00 please note that you will be charged 15dollars we got caught with this due to language barrier which was irritating.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hanoi Grand Hotel. The staff were always so helpful, the rooms were very comfortable and at breakfast time there was so much to choose from. The hotel is a good distance from the main centre, 5 to 10 main walk depending on which route you take. We enjoyed walking down the streets smelling all the yummy food and seeing the sights. We used the hotel as our base for when we returned back to the city from Sapa and Halong Bay. Better still, the hotel staff organised all of our trips and accommodation for us! Everything ran smoothly and best of all they organised transfers to and from the airport. No worries at all and because of this, we'll return to Hanoi.
