The Hanoi Grand has a number of plusses (quiet street, fairly central location, friendly staff, computer in room etc) but it also has some shortcomings.
We had booked what was called a 'junior suite' at a highly competitive price - but, on arrival, it turned out to be a largish room (801) with a very old fashioned bathroom, where water was continuously leaking on the floor. We complained and, although they were unable to fix the water problem, the following day we were moved to another room (701) which was somewhat better. However, there were tiny insects in the room.
The plumbing and electricals were all a bit 'heath robinson' in that not everything worked all the time (eg the air conditioning sometimes would not work, shower heads were partially blocked etc).
Breakfast is reasonably good once you get used to the system and assuming not everyone arrives to eat at the same time.
Overall, if you want a fairly basic place to stay at a low price in central Hanoi it is OK. But do not expect anything 'grand' about it! And probably some places are far worse...!More
