“Ordinary Thai food at an ordinary price”
Review of Yum Saap

A Thai chain of restaurants found mainly in shopping centres, Yum Saap serves ordinary Thai food that is tasty but ordinary in the sense that it is not too spicy.

No plastic bags at this Thai restaurant as it is ultra clean and affordable and though it caters to the ordinary Thai, most Thais I know do not recommend it because they find the food bland.

Being a foreigner who lives in Thailand a part of the year, I am less critical as it offers a long menu of standard Thai dishes at an affordable price without the ubiquitous "nam play" (fish sauce) that I have never developed the taste for.

I thus recommend Yum Saap to any foreigner that wants to taste Thai food but is not yet accustomed to the "extremes" in spiciest (or the plastic bagged food) that you would find at a street corner...

The place looks like a food court but located on the 5th floor of Central Festival Mall in Pattaya in the middle of all other expensive restaurants (Japanese, European, etc)

The service is ok. Not good, not bad. Just ok. Once the order placed, the dishes are served very quickly and all a the same time.

Need to know that the specialities are seafood noodles, ma-ma, salads and rice. Large variety of dishes. Difficult to choose.

We tried one seafood fried rice, good but no much taste. We ordered one ma-ma, one noodle soup and three salads. All of them were good and fresh but no much taste.

I was surprised that the place was busy with only thai people. They all seem to enjoy the food.

The problem was that the place wasn't clean at all. And this is bad for a restaurant located in that kind of luxury mall.

The price was ok (for me) but still a bit to expensive for thai people

Anyway I will return there as it's still a good place to eat at reasonable price and good food in Central Pattaya.

Its a Thai cuisine restaurant chain, and while the restaurant is just okay in decor and the place is a lil bit small, but they serve a good thai food. The tom yum is food, and the other rice menu taste good for a small price we need to pay.
The crispy pork skin tasted really good and the grilled chicken is nice. The rice menu is accompanied by a chicken soup which a great broth taste.

Overall a good food experience

You can always tell how good a restaurant is by its clientele, and within minutes of our arriving this place was full of Thai people. It is nothing special to look at with basic tables and chairs but the revelation came in the food. They are open from 11am -9pm (Central hours) and judging by the amount of people coming and going they are very popular. As we were with a friend and only wanted a snack lunch, I ordered two starters whilst my wife and our friend just had a main course each. My starter was deep fried spring rolls that were the largest I have ever seen plus deep fried fish cakes and both came with a dipping sauce. Both were excellent. My wife had Kow pad gai (chicken fried rice) and said it was very tasty, whilst our friend had the green chicken curry: again an excellent choice. The bill for all three of us, including drinks came to 349baht, very reasonable. Much nicer surroundings than the food court downstairs and very comparable in price. Worth a visit.
