We are a group of six people who are world travelers. And the tour (if you can call it that) that we just took with Mr. Samui company (a 6 hour island tour of Koh Samui) was the worst we have ever had! The person who picked us up was NOT a tour guide – he was just a driver. His English was TERRIBLE and he didn’t know any information about the places he was taking us!!! When we would get to a site (example the Mummified Monk), he would point to the sign that was there and tell us to read it! No other information was given. And at the beginning of the tour, we tried asking questions, but it soon became VERY obvious he had NO idea about the sites we were visiting!!!
I am very diligent about reading reviews before booking tours (I am a travel agent), and most of the reviews for Mr. Samui’s company were glowing. But what we unfortunately discovered, is that when using this company, it really matters what guide you get.
When we travel, I always book a similar type of tour towards the beginning of our trip so that we can learn as much as possible about the areas people, customs, culture, etc. Usually as the guide is driving from place to place, they give you lots of information about the area, the people, the culture. And then when you arrive at a site, they walk you around and give you lots of background and detail about the place.
The driver for us didn’t speak between sites and like I mentioned earlier, he would tell us to read a sign. However, there were only signs at a few stops so the rest of the time we were on our own to figure out what we were seeing.
We were all so disappointed because we really were looking forward to this tour after reading the reviews.
I would HIGHLY recommend NOT using this company unless you can be sure you are getting an ACTUAL guide – not just a driver.

Fabulous customised tour for our 6 person, multigenerational family group! I specifically chose this tour because it was customisable for our mobility and location needs. We were not part of a cruise group, just wanted an island tour while on vacation in Koh Samui. From the beginning, communication and service was fantastic. The vehicle is absolutely luxe and seats super comfortable. All the amenities like chilled water, tissues, raincoats were provided. Our tour guide and driver, Mr. Thai was absolutely incredible and his 15+ years in the role made him a very adaptable and knowledgeable host. Mr. Thai was easily able to navigate my mum's mobility restrictions and suggest experiences that would be easy access. We received lots of interesting information throughout and Mr. Thai was generous and considerate in every way! On our list were Capybara Cafe, Big Buddha, Wat Plai Laem, Guan Yu statue, Na Muang Waterfall 2 (flat entry) and local food markets and coconut grove. My family had a fantastic experience and everybody enjoyed the day. Thank you Mr. Thai and thank you Mr. Samui Tours. Highly recommend this family-owned and run business!
Tips:
Make sure you have enough Thai Baht on you for food, temple donations etc. Mr. Thai helped us with accessing international ATM as we weren't so prepared.
Toilet stops: We had many... Mr. Thai knows the cleanest, nicest stops on the journey!
It was a wonderful experience. Our guide was friendly and very informative. He was also happy to adjust the itinerary to suit the family's needs. Would highly recommend this service.
Mr. Thailand greeted us with a warm smile and custom van that was extremely comfortable and beautiful. We avoided the crowds and visited a spa, walked along the shore of a beautiful beach, visited the beautiful red temple, and finished at an elephant sanctuary. We savored a delicious meal of chicken rice and ice cream. The elephant sanctuary was particularly moving. We fed many rescued elephants who are now lovingly cared for by dedicated individuals. It was an unforgettable experience. We would definitely utilize Mr. Samui tours when visiting Koh Samui.
Our Guide Nom was the best. He was so upbeat, had a great way of organizing what we wanted to to, and was so fun to be with. He also was amazing helping 2 of us who have mobility problems, go through the Magic Garden. We could not have had a better experience.
