Had breakfast & coffee at The Hideout twice during our stay in Chiang Mai. What a lovely little spot. Service was some of the best of any cafe we visited on this trip. Food was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend giving it a shot.

Came here last month and order some of their dishes. Food is decent and inexpensive but place be too old and run down. Not too clean. Smell of oil and grease. A bit hot during the hot weather,

We appreciate your visit and I'm glad that you found the food to be decent and inexpensive as these are our primary aims. We are very aware of the state of the restaurant interior and steps to remedy this are ongoing though we might never reach a level where you will be happy. Aesthetics are a lower priority for us because focussing on those and keeping high quality ingredients at the same time will result in higher costs for what's on the plate. As for cleanliness, our restaurant is cleaned down thoroughly every day and we periodically deep clean the entire premises (scheduled for quiet months). The smell of oil and grease is more likely due to the small size of our restaurant, a less than effective exhaust hood and guests being very close to the kitchen when they dine here. If you find heat uncomfortable enough to mention it then it would be wise to visit only those restaurants that have air conditioning. Try to remember, it's not the fault of the restaurant if you choose to dine in a space that makes you uncomfortable. Especially if the restaurant clearly describes themselves as small and non-airconditioned.

The sandwiches are good and well prepared but have nothing extraordinary that can make this 'restaurant' number 3 on Trip Advisor. It's completely over evaluated. Cafe is OK but you can find hundreds of other places where cafe is much better. In addition the location has nothing interesting; it's just a small room without any garden or lovely area.

TripAdvisor's category for 'restaurant' implies that food is freshly prepared (in contrast to pre-prepared) and orders are taken at the table rather than at a counter. You'd also consider a hole-in-the-wall establishment selling pad thai to be a restaurant because it satisfies those conditions. The Hideout lives in the space between that and fine-dining. The majority of the TripAdvisor community recognise this and they (and TripAdvisor's algorithm) have decided this 'restaurant' is number 3 at the time of writing.

For potential guests I'd like to point out that this reviewer has correctly described our premises. You can see and read in reviews spanning the 4+ years we've been in operation that aesthetics aren't a focus for us. If you want beauty, calmness, scenery or anything like that then please seek an alternative establishment and get what you want. When you want unpretentious Western food made to order using high quality ingredients then come take a seat and we'll do everything we can to satisfy you.

Visitors The Hideout on Wed, Aug 29. Had the mango + passion fruit smoothie with probiotic yogurt and the banana bread. Would highly recommend this restaurant. Very low key. Inexpensive.

Best banana/mango milk shake in CM. The Caesar salad is perfection. The chicken on a bagel is my favorite sandwich and my wife loves the salmon salad. I’ve been eating here for years the consistency and passion can be seen & tasted I n every dish. The French toast with real maple syrup on house made bread is not to be missed.
