Amazing hostel, tong is ace (boss man) so helpful and kind! Would definitely rate this hostel as one of the best I've stayed in so far in Thailand! And cheap as chips! Definitely would go back! Need to get taxi or tuk tuk to get around but not far at all!

After staying with some friends and getting some good recommendations, we decided to return on our way back from Pai to Bangkok. Book if you can, because rooms can get full. There's a dorm bed most of the time though and lots of alternatives in Chiang Mai. Our host was kind and helpfull, always around for a chat. She can recommend good cooking courses or wildlife excursions.

Room tip: Double rooms give privacy and comfort. They've mattresses on the floor here. Dorm beds with lockers and curtains between beds are good.

Aoi is a delight! The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. They can assist you in booking tours and arranging transportation to airport etc. They are also laid back enough to let you figure things out on your own, or stay out drinking in the pavilion all night. We were at Aoi for New Year's "Sawadee-pi-mai-kaa" and it was spectacular! I also suggest walking to North Gate for the jazz music on the weekends.
This was also the only hostel where we stayed "dorm style" and it was great! They hang lacy sheets between the beds to give privacy and I really felt at home.

A really great hostel at a really great location. The staff is really willing to help you out with finding the nice outdoor activities and finding the right spots around town. The rooms cannot be locked, but there is a really spacious locker for each bed. Best feature: they rent out bikes for only 50 baht per day. It is the perfect cheap way to discover the city center and only 20 minutes to the Chiang Mai University campus.

Recommended to us by a friend, AOI Garden Home provided a nice place to stay during our time in Chiang Mai. The garden area is really welcoming with tons of flyers and information about things to do in Chiang Mai and the owners are also very helpful in showing you where to go and what to do. Also helpful in booking transportation to the airport. My boyfriend and I couldn't find a room with a double bed, so settled on a room with two single beds. The room was clean but only had two fans, which really wasn't sufficient for the hot Thai whether. I heard from some other guests that they have other rooms with air conditioner, so definitely try to book one of those rooms. The hostel is in a good location in town, near lots of temples, and you can rent bikes for a small fee to ride around town. We met some great people here and would definitely come again if we ever come back. The hostel even offers a day trip to Pai, the little hippie town just north of Chiang Mai. We didn't have time to go, but heard it was awesome.
