On my next stop along the random eats tour of Chiang Mai, I visited Elysa Restaurant. You will want to try this place! Upon walking in, I was greeted not only by the very friendly staff, but by the patrons along my path as well. But not in English... nor in Thai. But in français! What a great surprise. This place wasn't just slapping the French moniker on the sign to lure tourists, this was the real deal. Everyone either spoke French or Thai. But I come from a french speaking culture, so that made it even more fun to be there; although Cajun French and Parisian French are a bit different. There were traditional French menu selections as well as Thai food. But as I looked through the menu, my eyes fell upon the item by which I believe all good restaurants should be judged, the hamburger.
Hear me out on this one. If you put care into something as basic and fundamentally essential to the diet as a hamburger, you can be judged on an even playing field between any dining establishment, I worked at a 4/5 star restaurant as a young man and the hamburger was select meat, cooked to perfection with the perfect amount of seasoning and condiments. This burger met those measurements and satisfied my craving with gusto.
This place is SO WORTH going back to. Try it, you will be glad you did. The prices are a little higher than the norm, but it is not norm food around here. So it is worth the extra coin to have the good food.
