As a frequent visitor to Bangkok over the past 5 years, this visit was the first time I had heard or seen this restaurant. I went on a friend’s recommendation and I was not disappointed.
It is down a small side street and as soon as you feel you are wandering down the middle of nowhere, the bright pink building catches your attention. Bar on the ground floor with outside seating, restaurant on the floors above. Staff were very friendly and clearly take pride in the restaurant, its history and design. But that’s all good....the food is key.
Both the drinks and food menu was varied and inventive. We had salted caramel whisky sours and mango chilli mojitos. Neither were too sweet or fussy, just really good flavours.
The waiter said we ordered quite a lot of dishes but they all sounded so tempting, we went with it. Starters: popcorn shrimp, wagyu beef dumplings, duck summer rolls, were all outstanding. If I had to, I would single out the popcorn shrimp as something not to be missed. Mains: tangerine chicken, Pad Thai with foie gras, short rib in green curry. Loved all of these. I would say the pad Thai and the short rib were not to be missed. Really nice combinations of flavours.
Dessert: banana roti was a nice finish.
Portions are generous but we were hungry, and we were still keen to try more so made another reservation when we were leaving! Salmon Tacos, tofu hot pot and a smattering of their other signature dishes (highlighted on the menu) still need to be sampled! I would also ask the wait staff for their recommendations.
I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant. The staff and the general space was very welcoming without being too ostentatious, and the food proved that this is NOT style over substance. Some good veggie options too and I am sure they would accommodate dietary requests.
