“Great location but mediocre service and a lack of maintenance/cleaning.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 January 2012

This was a very pleasant hotel and a good deal for the excellent location a stone's throw from the Asok Skytrain and the Sukhumvit metro. Many great restaurant options nearby, and 7-Eleven is around the corner. Service wasn't rude, but wasn't anything special--the counter is often left unattended. Room was cleaned daily, but shower curtain was moldy, drain in shower was almost fully clogged, etc. Would be nice to have coffee available either in room or in lobby. Nice TV with a couple of English channels available and many Thai channels.

Disgusted, arrived at 1am after booking at hotel and emailing to confirm our booking. They said they were full, didn't apologize and sent us to another hotel even though they admitted their mistake. Never returned our 15 dollar deposit. Owner Ray Mantis yelled at us when we asked for deposit back (claiming two different stories. First, he said money went to the new hotel they sent us to then he changed his story and said the money was all given to hostelworld. Stole our money! Do not book here!

This hotel could be great. The location is just about perfect: Off the main road enough to be quiet, but not enough to matter in terms of location. Asok BTS station is a two minute walk. There are many good restaurants in the area. The hotel is very convenient to the shopping and nightlife on Sukhumvit road, yet far enough to let you get away when you need some down time. The new Terminal 21 theme mall is almost right across the street! The employees are not overtly friendly, but not rude either. That's OK with me. However, I completely agree with the guy that said: "scratch the surface and it's not quite there, a few too many corners have been cut."

First and worst of all my room was full of mosquitos almost every night. You may get them one night, but the maids leave the door open when they clean and you begin the hunt anew the next day. I had to kill six at the very least each night and I never really got them all. Remember that we are talking about a room on the top floor of the hotel and the windows are not open. It is amazing that so many mosquitos find their way up the top floor. I've stayed in literally dozens of hotels in Bangkok and have never had this problem before. They need to do something about this issue, beginning with keeping the doors closed during cleaning until the problem can be controlled.

Second, the hotel needs a deep cleaning/maintenance schedule for the rooms. Sure, they clean the bathroom, make the bed and mop every day. But there was a lot of dust on shelves and around the air conditioning vents. The drapes need to be cleaned. There was black mold under the caulking all around the bathroom--caulking needs to be replaced periodically. The Pergo flooring is in bad condition in certain rooms and needs to be replaced. These are ongoing maintenance issues that need to be addressed.

Third, the water temperature was not easy to regulate and the pressure was too low. I also ran completely out of hot water one day at about 6PM (when I finally got towels, see below) after showering for one minute.

Fourth, and this is a bit odd, the hotel does not have enough towels. On each day of my stay the maids took the towels to wash and brought them back hours later. It was as if they only have one set of towels per room. I asked if I could get ONE to take a shower--sorry, none available was the answer. A hotel with NO towels? This is incredibly inconvenient when you want to take a shower in the afternoon--or on arrival for that matter.

If there was a 2.5 rating, I would use that, but I am rounding up to 3. That said, if (and only if) things improved, I would stay here again, but I might wait a year and see what happens.

Room Tip: Transient issue: There is a hideous cat that screams randomly on the X01/X02 side of the building. I...

i was on transit in Bangkok for one night so i choosed this hotel cause of the price and the location. the locaion was good closed to the center and not far away from the highway to go back to the airport.
when i arrived to check in i wait more than 10 min with no one at the reception desk. than i found the reception man working on the laundry, he told me that he was cleanning rooms and "why you didnt checked yourself in"
the room was poor the floor was ragged and torn.
the blankets was with old spots.
when i opened the drawer i was surprised to find 2 used condoms.
that was too much for me i left my luggage in the room as a storage and went out all the night.

I've stayed in Bangkok many times, and by far this is the best hotel that I've ever stayed at with good price and excellent location!

The location is definitely unbeatable, consider that it is just a 2-min walk to both the Asok BTS station and the Sukhumvit MRT station. The stations are connected by a footbridge and escalators, as well as to the shopping level of an office building close to the hotel. So it was quite convenient even with luggage.

Make sure you have the map of the hotel printed out if you take a taxi because the hotel isn't directly on soi 18. It is on a small soi connecting to soi 18. With no map on me, I had to call the hotel because the taxi driver couldn't find the hotel.

We had a windowless room, which was fine as I don't think the view would be nice as there were other tall buildings around. The room was decent size for the two of us, we both had one piece of luggage. There was a closet with drawers and a few hangers inside. There was also a small fridge, which was cold enough for drinks. The LCD tv had many channels in English and other languages too. The bathroom had a tub and shower, and was very clean. The free wifi worked really well in our room. The bed was really comfortable. There is one elevator and most of the time we just took the stairs as it took a long time for it to come. We were on the 3rd floor.

There was a restaurant on the ground floor. We never used it though. No breakfast was included for our stay. You could walk out to soi 18 for cheap local food on the street. The stalls got very busy during lunch time as office workers nearby ate there. You could get fried rice, pad thai, thai ice tea, papaya salad and fried chicken at those stalls.

I would definitely come back again next time!
