Have used this guesthouse many times in the past because of its quietness and relative closeness to Kathmandu airport. Sadly it has been run down. The rooms need redecorating, the pillows replaced and the room's lighting made to work.

The best guest house in Kathmandu, placed inside the monastery property, with a beautiful garden restaurant and cafe. Food is amazing. IT is a very peaceful place, and very close to Buddha Stupa. Love it

Restaurant belongs to Shechen monastery. It is a beautiful garden restaurant and cafe They have many vegetarian and meet dishes, home-made pastas, pizzas and rice dishes, Tibetan momos and Nepali dishes. They made a organic bread fresh salads, homemade yogurt and lassi. They keep the highest standard for hygiene, for example washing the vegetables and fruits in mineral water.
The guest house is wonderful too.

I have lived at Shechen Guest House for months at a time and have often housed large groups of visitors there. The rooms are spacious and clean, with parquet flooring and decent bathrooms. Reports that the rooms are dirty -- mentioned by other reviewers -- are simply untrue, in my experience. Likewise, claims that the rooms are too expensive for the quality delivered are nonsense. Any place in Boudha charging less than them (with one exception) is a dump. It's a guest house, attached to a monastery, provided for the convenience of pilgrims and dharma students. From that perspective it is a stand out value. You walk through the grounds of one of Boudha's prettiest (and cleanest) monasteries to a garden oasis. The restaurant is OK, not great -- but one can head out to many others restaurants that are minutes away. The included breakfast is a bargain. Ask for a room on the top floor. Book early if you are coming in the autumn. SGH fills up quickly during periods when lamas are giving major teachigns.

Room Tip: Upstairs is better. Fresher during monsoon and warmer in the winter.
